Better Off

"You know you're better off without him, Y/N."

"I know," Y/N smiled sadly at her coffee. It was raining outside, it was the perfect day for hot coffee and staying in. "but you know that I can't leave Mingi like that, Yunho." She muttered. Yunho sighed from beside her and scooted at little closer to put an arm around her. Y/N relaxed at his gesture as she sniffed, she laid her head on his shoulder and quietly cried. Yunho rubbed her arm comfortingly as he let her cry.

Y/N knew that this was going to happen when she agreed to be Mingi's fuck buddy. It was inevitable and she prepared herself for what's going to happen, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt as much. It happened when San and Wooyoung decided to throw a party to celebrate the end of their exams. They invited the whole gang and Y/N who immediately agreed. "Sure, I need to let loose after all the studying I did." She said. They arrived and had a good time, Y/N lost count on how many shots of whiskey and how many cocktails she drunk when she found herself sneaking of with Mingi towards an empty room. Mingi and Y/N found themselves breathing heavily after what their drunken decisions made them do.

She woke up the morning after that with a nasty hangover and a naked Mingi beside her. She realized what they did and wondered what's going happen. She left without saying goodbye that day, deciding that avoiding Mingi and the rest of the boys for the entire day (or week) to just think about what's going to happen and not risk being awkward to each other. But fate wasn't on her side, Mingi approached her after class and suggested to be friends with benefits instead. Just fuck, no feelings. "This way we could just...act like always and not be super awkward with each other." He said.

Y/N knew she shouldn't agree. She was in love with Mingi, she loved him ever since he helped her in her math exam when they were in their second year of college. They're in their fourth year now, just weeks before their graduation. She decided it will be good as it lasts and maybe this will be the last time, she would have the chance to be closer to him. She agreed, of course, but it was harder than she thought.

Yes, she and Mingi were the best friends. Mingi would sometimes go to her and rant about his problems and confide in her. Y/N would comfort and support him whenever he needs and wants it and Mingi does the same. But over the years of being best friends with benefits with Song Mingi has it downs. Y/N could only watch as Mingi kissed other girls. She would watch as Mingi flirted shamelessly with friends and then learn that he dated them the next day. Of course, Mingi would tell her that it was just for fun, that he didn't need them and didn't have sex with them since he has her. It hurt her so much, but what could she do? She was just his best friend. His best friend that he fucks every now and then.

Y/N graduated and found a stable job somewhere in Seoul. Of course, she and the others, including Mingi, see each other every time they could. The friends with benefits part did not go away either, the only difference is that they couldn't do it as much as they want when they were in college. She's staying at an apartment with Yunho. The two of them deciding that they didn't need the extra burden of commuting every night after work. It was decided easily since they didn't have a curfew hour and they have more freedom on how to schedule and work things out, unlike when they live at a dorm.

Also, Yunho is the only one who knows about everything. She told him about her feelings for Mingi and their whole agreement. Yunho wasn't happy with it, but he couldn't change Y/N's mind. Now he's the one who was stuck comforting her every time she cries about Mingi.

The next day, Y/N felt nauseous with a splitting headache. She groaned as she sat up and look at the clock, her eyes widened as she threw her blankets aside and ran outside. "I'm going to be late!" she exclaimed. She quickly showered and prepared for the day, slipping her jacket as she hastily got her bag and ran out of her room. "I told you not to stay up last night." Yunho said as he sipped his coffee, already dressed, and offered her a toast. "I didn't know that movie was going to be that long!" she said. Yunho giggled in response as he stood up. "I have time to take a little detour, I'll give you a ride." He said, keys jiggling from his hands. "Thank you Yunho! I owe you one!"
