James' POV
In the back of the room, I saw her eyes shine as she watched me walk through the door. I hadn't seen her since last month, and I missed her so much that the feeling overwhelmed me.I had just returned from a tour in Brazil, but she couldn't accompany me due to her classes.
I knew we wouldn't be able to communicate during the trip because she had classes all day, and I had rehearsals and concerts. She stood there, silent, smiling like a child who had received a gift. Tears filled her eyes, and she didn't blink or seem to breathe.
Setting down my guitar case and suitcase, I took a deep breath, removed my hat and leather jacket, tossed them onto the couch, and approached her. Reaching the girl at the back of the room, I noticed a tear that had formed in her eye now rolling down her cheek. I extended my arms, cupped her cheeks with my hands, wiped away the tear with my thumb, drew closer to her, and kissed her forehead.
"I'm back, my little girl!" I whispered, my face close to hers.
She hugged me tightly, wrapping her arms around my neck. I held her waist and lifted her off the ground, embracing her tightly, feeling her fingers weave into my hair as she instinctively pressed her body against mine.
"I missed you so much!" She whispered.
"I missed you too, princess!" I replied, setting her down.
Our faces remained close, our foreheads touching, our eyes closed.I released one hand from her waist and brought it to the back of her neck. She brushed her nose against mine slowly."I love you, James," she mumbled.
I kissed her softly, our lips meeting perfectly. As the kiss deepened, her fingers caressed my head. Lowering my hands to her thighs, I lifted her, placed her in my lap, and settled onto the couch, with her on my legs. Gradually, I ended the kiss and leaned back against the couch.
"I love you more," I said, gazing at her. "Els?" Tears still streamed down her face. Sitting up straighter, I reached for her face again. "Hey, what's wrong? I'm here!"
"I know, and I'm happy about it," she said, her tears now flowing more intensely.
"Then why are you crying?" I asked, confused by her response.
"It's complicated," she replied.
"Hey, baby, please don't cry. What's happened?" I urged, feeling upset to see her in tears. "Ella?" She closed her eyes. "Talk to me. What's wrong?"
"I love you, James," she repeated, her eyes still closed.
"Ella, look at me," I said, gently holding her face in my hands. She opened her eyes and met my gaze. "Tell me what's on your mind."
"I don't know where to start," she whispered. "And I'm not sure if I want to talk about it."
"Please, Ella, just speak," I said, my frustration growing. I gently lifted her off my lap, but it only made her cry harder. "Stop crying!" I demanded, my voice rising, causing her to shrink back on the couch.
"I knew you'd be upset. It's a complicated situation," she said, struggling to contain her tears between sobs. "My mother..." She paused, taking a deep breath. "She asked me to stay away from you." Her tears flowed again. "No, she demanded it! She wants me to break up with you!"
"What? Why?" I asked, bewildered.
"I don't know. She thinks it's better for me because you're famous and you travel a lot," she explained, her crying subsiding momentarily. "She said I won't always be able to be with you because of college, and that I could suffer a lot because of your fans and the media."
