Fate. That was the name of the game that changed everything. No, really. That wasn’t a play on words or anything, there really was a video game called Fate that changed not only the video gaming industry, but also life as we knew it. After its existence, everything became centered around gaming. Tournaments became a major source of income and started popping up everywhere, almost anyone you could ask knew about video games, and there were even SCHOOLS being created that honed and helped create MLG gamers.

You may ask how this happened, what was so groundbreaking about Fate. Well, it’s good on its own, it’s definitely a solid FPS with extreme measures of customization for EVERYTHING, including weapons, characters, abilities, and much more. You name it, you can customize it in Fate. The graphics are also awesome, the game modes plentiful, and the maps diverse, as well as it being an only online multiplayer experience, but none of that is the draw of Fate. The draw of Fate is the virtual reality, if you can even call it that.

The game comes with a bracelet which connects you to it. You feel like you’re inside the game when you play it, you can feel the virtual environment you’re in, smell it, see it, hear it, taste it…I guess. It hurts when you get shot or hit, it’s incredibly painful when you die, though you don’t actually die, just kind of dissolve into pixels and respawn by going through some kind of matrix, and you can hear explosions full force, as well as smell the smoke from said explosions.

No one is quite sure how this virtual reality works, they only know that it’s incredible.

The competitive tournaments and championships are probably the other major draw of Fate. These competitive tournaments are split into leagues, called Leaderboards. There are many Leaderboards for Fate, due to the many game modes, some examples beings the 6v6 Deathmatch Leaderboard, which is one of the more intense Leaderboards, since six is the most amount of players a Fate team can have; and the Free-For-All Controlled Leaderboard, which is an all players for themselves version of the game mode Controlled, which is like Fate’s version of Domination.

By far the most difficult, yet famous and best paying Leaderboard, though, is the Anarchy Leaderboard. The best way to describe it I would say, is no rules. A team of six can face against a single player, and any game mode can be played. The Anarchy Leaderboard is crazy and unrestricted, and it is difficult to hold a position in the Anarchy Leaderboard. Especially because this Leaderboard has one catch that all the others don’t:

If a team lower on the Leaderboard beats a team that is higher on the Leaderboard, the lower team takes the higher team’s position. Of course, teams can improve their ranking by just gaining points by winning matches and whatnot, but this catch can rocket lower ranking teams up the Leaderboard fairly quickly if they’re good enough.

One team held the top spot on the Anarchy Leaderboard for the longest time, though. They are called Team Gents. It is a three man team led by Geoff Ramsey, with the two other members of the team being Jack Pattillo and James Ryan Haywood, who just goes by Ryan Haywood.

Geoff is a defense heavy player, taking the role of a tank. He wields a giant, heavy, war hammer, which has the affinity of earth and can create earthquakes and cracks in the ground. His secondary is an assault rifle that does a fair amount of damage alone, and, if a bullet hits his target, causes the unfortunate adversary to become nauseous for a good amount of time. Lastly is his ability, Spirit of the Hawk, which allows Geoff to temporarily see through walls at will and track other players, a very good ability for a leader, since it allows him to make plans easily and on the fly. Geoff also wears heavy deep green armor that is powered by energy, which allows temporary shielding and higher jumping.

Jack is the healer of the group, keeping the others alive and having quicker regeneration of health himself. His primary weapon is a crossbow that can fire bolts with various debuffs, including paralysis and poison. Those bolts can also be switched out with healing bolts, so Jack can patch up his teammates from across the map. Jack’s secondary is a battle axe with a lightning affinity, which can strike an enemy straight from the sky all the way across the map and paralyze enemies. Jack also switched out his ability for a third weapon, which is a pistol with the ability to auto lock on to enemies. If given enough time to perform a full lock on, it can kill an adversary with a single bullet. He wears light, leather-like armor, which is always stuffed with potions and other medical supplies, the potions having the two main uses of healing and curing.

Ryan is a damager, doing most of the damage and killing. He uses an elementally charged rifle, which can shoot various bullets with elemental effects, such as electricity and flame. They deal incredible damage and status effects, including poisoning, burning, and various other debuffs. His other weapon is a broadsword, which is mostly used for slicing and incapacitating. It also causes an unavoidably status effect if it connects with its target. The effect is one that weakens whatever it is forced upon, and kills them immediately if they survive for long enough. Ryan’s ability is called Apprentice, which allows him to cast any kind of offensive spell without being a mage, but forces him to wear mage tailored armor, making Ryan a glass cannon. His attire is the most defensive robes he can equip, with a belt that holds all of his various elemental ammo clips.

We’ll get back to these guys later though, because something’s about to change, for better or for worse…
