10:55am
I finished my breakfast and went back outside to see if the paint is dry on Knockout. The new cherry red patches are more vibrant than his original, I grab a bucket near the garage door containing my washing supplies. I do not just use a simple rag and filthy water to wash my cars, I use two different washes, one for the body and another for the windows. For rinsing I use a power washer, speaking of which my neighbours borrowed two weeks ago and returned it broken, so I will have to use just the hose."Alright Knockout, paint's dry so imma wash you and then polish your finish."
"Is that necessary? Do I need to be washed"
I look into the car through the window that is slightly down, looking at the radio.
"So, you can speak now"
"I've always been capable of speaking in my alt mode, I was just playing car"
"Right well just put your windows up cause I'm washing you whether you like it or not, there's mud in places there shouldn't be"
I look at his tires that have crusty mud caked on them, I am quite sure there's mud under the bumper and wheel liners, where it looks like he's been stuck in the mud. I fill the bucket up with water and poor in a lid full of soap, dunking the sponge into the water a couple of times to mix everything together with some bubbles.
"Your tires are the worst part, so I'll rinse them off first"
No reply, so the silent treatment huh. I grab the hose and walk towards the first wheel to rinse off the hard mud, I use a small tire scrubber to remove the stubborn lumps.
Once I got all four wheels mud clean, I grabbed the bucket and started to wash the car, uh, Knockout. I rinsed the bucket and sponge and added the window soap and scrubbed the dead bugs of his windscreen.
I stepped back and looked at the soapy red being in front of me before grabbing the hose to hose off all the soap. I walk into the shed to grab my dryer I bought last year, took me three years to save up for it and I aint gunna let it go to waste.~~~~~~
12:01pm
Lunch time, yay. Knockout has been talking non-stop about his finish and how he could have done it better. I've just gotten inside to smell some scrambled eggs being cooked by mum.
"Mmm, smells good mum"
"Thanks y/n, you want a plate"
"Yes please"
I sit down at the table after grabbing a couple knife and forks, mum soon places a plate full of scramble eggs topped with some parsley in front of me.
"So mum, I was wondering if I could go on a road trip"
"Where to, you still have school"
"Only because they wanted me to study another year, c'mon mum, you know how smart I am"
"OK dear, but your dad still has to say yes"
"Thank you mum"
I gobble down the eggs, hug mum and rush up to my room to pack. Dad should be home in an hour so until then I can pack all my necessary items into Knockout. Wait I got to tell him the news, I detour to the garage where Knockout is still complaining about his finish, my buffer moved from the wall into his hand, broken.
"Knockout, I needed that"
"What, this broken thing, you fleshies have small servos"
I rush over to grab the once useful buffer from Knockout's grasp.
"I was going to come and tell you that my mum has agreed to me going on our road trip, just got to wait for dad to get home for his approval"
"How long do we have to wait"
"Around an hour"~~~~~~
1:24pm
With dad's approval I am shoving what I can into Knockout, him complaining I will scratch his interior.
"So, you are driving to Nevada Y/n"
"Yes dad, I'll have breaks along the way so don't worry"
"Is that everything you need? It looks like you're taking your whole room"
"All I have are three bags of clothes, a box of books, change of shoes and a couple of my favourite stuffed toys"
"Looks cramped"
"I have the box and a bag on the passenger seat, it's not cramped. The rest is in the boot, barely"
"You have your money and lunch"
"Yes mum, right I'll be off now, before it gets too dark before I stop for the night"
"Ok drive safe dear"
I wave to my parents as I drive down the road, feeling Knockout take over driving as we leave the small ten house town.~~~~~~
8:45pm
"You have a problem"
"What's that"
"You pack too much, you could have brought most of this scrap when we get to Nevada"
"Well not all of it is replaceable, plus one bag doesn't have clothes in it"
"Then what is in it"
"Two guns, some knives, extra money I hid and photos.
"Right, you sound dangerous"I do not reply, I just look ahead to where we're driving before pulling out my flip phone, looking at the photos of the only friend I had before looking at pictures of my brother. A tear slides down my cheek as I remember the day I found him; his car totalled upside-down.
"You're crying"
I look to the radio changing colours as Knockout talks.
"I don't want to talk about it"
"Talking is sometimes the best way to feel better, start talking"
"Fine, I've been holding it in for seven years"
"Who's it about"
"My brother, he was killed in a car crash, his friend thought it would be a good idea to drink five beers, my brother was the driver"I wipe the tears from my cheeks before they can go any further.
"He didn't have anything to drink, his so-called friend grabbed the wheel from in the back, yanked it to the right"
I stopped talking, pulling my legs up to my stomach to wrap my arms around and started to cry.
"They rolled down a hill and hit a power pole, friend survived, my brother didn't"
"I'm, sorry for your loss"Knockout slows down, opening the driver's window so some cool air could cool you off.
"Thanks"
I relax my legs and let myself drift off to sleep, letting Knockout drive us all the way to Nevada.
