"Lady Livia of the Lake, come out now!" The banging on the door sent chills down my spin, even though I knew this was coming. My vision had begun to blur weeks ago and now I couldn't feel anything. The soft snoring of my husband Dave drifted down from upstairs, sleeping calmy, not even knowing that I was down stairs. Mermaids could live on land but every full moon must go to the sea but that was just one of the rules I had broken when I had married Dave. He hated the water after that accident, but I loved him and I wanted to be with him. It had been 12 years since I had last been in the sea and that was the limit of any mermaid.
"Come in," the door slowly swung open revealing a man that appeared to be in his mid-twenties dressed all in black, not the usual clothes of a Sea Morgue. He held in his hand a sword like the ninjas use in the movies. With the knowledge that this man wasn't with the Sea Morgue dawning on me I tried to drop the spells I hadbcast to stop Dave from stopping this.
"It is no use, as soon as I enter a house invited all spells are stuck, no one can help you now."
A piercing scream filled the room. "Livia, did you hear that?" Rolling over, a horror filled my sight, Livia was gone. Throwing back the covers I took down the stairs two at a time, screaming Livia's name, completely forgetting that Maria and CeCe were asleep. The bolt down the stairs felt like it took forever but when I finally got to the bottom I wished I wasn't. Lying on the floor in a pool of blood, our wedding vase lying shattered on the ground was Livia, dead with a gruesome cut across her throat. "No, not Livia!" Running over to her I cradled her limp head in my arms, crying into her hair.
"Dad?" The sound of my eldest daughter shook me from my state. But I wished she was still in bed because the look on her face as she held her little CeCe in her arms, her eyes brimming with tears at the sight of her mother made me go to her. As I cradled them in my arms and she cried I knew that life would never be the same.
