The Story of Echo

Chapter 1, A Glimpse of Past and Setup

At birth Echo was a oddball. Being female compared to her other two brothers. Queen Chrysalis was planning to grow the hive large enough for a future invasion and had not planned for this. While she thought about getting rid of the young filly, she thought of a plan. IF she was given a mare, why not ensure that mare is given everything so she is truly loyal to the Queen? So as time passed for Echo, Bolg, and Cipher grew, the Queen kept a close eye on her. Having her trained with her brothers in combat and at the Queen's request, Echo advancing to a higher position of power. Now for Echo she was not ungrateful, she saw her high status in the Hive's army a great honor. However, she did not think of herself as much. This was not helped by the fact her two older brothers would rib into her every chance they got. Calling her Queen's pet, (being the most mild name of the many) for being shown great generosity from the Queen. Regardless Echo tried her best to blend in with the hive and do her natural duties. Until one day Queen Chrysalis had called for her in the Throne Room.

As Echo enters the throne room in her armor, she can see it seems empty of the rest of the hive expect for Queen Chrysalis. The Queen has a small grin on her face as she sits on her throne. 

Queen C, "Lieutenant Echo. I am glad you could make it to me."

Echo with clear uncertainty in her voice, "Is there something wrong my Queen?"

Queen Chrysalis lets out a sinister chuckle standing up on all four hooves, "None at all. I wanted to congratulate you on your final promotion from me before I set off to infiltrate Canterlot.  I'm promoting you to Captain, Echo, and placing you in command of 200 of my finest guards to accomplish the most vital task I need done was the invasion begins in full swing."

Echo was surprised with this, as she is with every promotion. But earlier in her life she learned not to question the Queen and almost got a terrible scar to show for it. Echo presses the conversation forward, "I am honored my Queen... If I may ask. What is this task you require of me when we are to begin?"

Queen Chrysalis slowly walks towards Echo with a calm voice, "As you been told in some of the meetings I personally requested you sit in, there is a powerful weapon called the Elements of Harmony. Your brothers will slow down the wielders of these... Elements, *Said with some disgust* you and your platoon will secure them and bring them to me."

The elements of Harmony. As much as Echo heared about them the more she grew skeptical of its real power. Yet it was still a threat by being a symbol of hope that the ponies could rally behind.

Echo answered with clarity, "As you wish my Queen. I will go get my soldiers ready."

The Queen stood in front of Echo, clearly taller. She lifted Echo's chin up with her hoof, "Should anything happen my dear. I just want you to know I saw you as my daughter, and unlike the other mares here who have been... Waiting for the moment to overthrow me. I would be happy if you took charge."

Chrysalis proceeded to walk away after that, leaving a stunned Echo. A daughter? What did she mean by that? The Queen gave birth to the entire hive so they were all her children. But did she mean she felt she had a stronger connection to her than the rest?? Echo left for her chambers deep in thought. It was unfortunate that the Invasion was within days, not enough time for Echo to get a hold of her thoughts.
