~~A Little After The Past, But Still Before The Present~~
"Stop worrying about him, Lola." Peggy sighed at my impatient form. I turned from the dark window I was looking out. I watched her sigh again before speaking. "He's gonna be fine."
"Bucky? Or Steve?" I asked sarcastically. "Because I'm currently worrying about both."
"Both are fine. They're young men, they can handle themselves." She chuckled.
"Bucky always needs someone to be there for him, and Steve needs help with like, everything." I huffed frustratedly.
"Look, tomorrow we're going to town to work with the serum. You should come along."
"Really, I'd rather not." I flopped back onto my bed. 'Hard.' I cringed at the uncomfortable mattress. "What if something goes wrong? What if it doesn't work? What if he says 'no'?" I rambled.
"At least be there? For your two best friends?" She pleaded. I looked into her soft eyes. I could never say "no" to her kind-hearted self.
"Fineeee. I'll meet you at the old antique store." I huffed. "Now, I think I'd rather be left to my wandering thoughts." I sighed, turning to look back out the window.
"Just catch them before they wander to Germany." She joked.
"God, that was an awful joke, Peggy." I lightly laughed. "That was so bad!" She began to laugh with me. "Don't laugh at that!" I laughed.
"You're laughing!"
"Y-Yeah! So don't follow my bad example!" I reasoned.
"Fair enough." She regained composure, walking to her own bed to read. I shook my head with a soft smile and looked out the window. Only to see a demon man looking back with deep, navy blue eyes. 'Shit.' I closed the curtain, gaining Peggy's attention. I ignored her and bundled myself with blankets. This was going to be a longgg night.
Yeah I didn't sleep a wink. I glared at the sunlight which streamed into the room. Carefully changing from the clothes I stayed in, I did my best to NOT bother Peggy. She'll wake up soon enough. I snuck outside to see a sleeping form under the window. 'Son of a bitch fell asleep.' I glared. I did the best thing I could think of, considering all the strength genes went to him, I used my shapeshifting. I turned into a lion and scared the absolute daylights out of him.
"SHIT! I'M GOING TO CARVE OPEN WHO--" I stopped him right there by covering his mouth in my human form.
"SHUSH! Dimitri! If you wake Peggy up, I swear to whatever messed up God you believe in, I WILL kill you myself." I glared. I cowered with fear and rapidly nodded his head. So I took that as my "okay" and "I'll be quiet" response and slowly removed my hand.
"You do have a heart, sister!" He cooed.
"Yes, of course I do! Just not a heart to care about you." I stood up and looked him over like the piece of scum he was. Swiftly I turned and left him there. Only to hear him scamper up from the ground and start running to my side. I did my best to resist the urge. But when he was right at my left side, I couldn't help myself. The moment he took one last step, I stopped and swiftly punched him to the ground. My knuckles hurt, but it was worth it.
"Thanks, Dimitri. I feel better." I smiled."A-" He winced in pain, rubbing his jaw. "Anytime...sis..." He half-smiled half-cried. I smiled and held a hand to help him up. "Aww! You do care!"
"Forget it." I kicked him back to the ground and stormed off.
"W-Wait! Baby sister!" He cried, running to my side with his super speed. I huffed and avoided eye contact, but stopped and crossed my arms to listen anyway. He sighed sadly.
"I know I'm not the best big brother...but...do you want to hangout together? Y'know...sometime?""I'll think about it, Dimitri." I pat his shoulder comfortingly. "Thanks for trying." I walked off, leaving him depressed. That pained my heart, but...I really just...do not like him very much. I spent my morning training, and then flying into town as a raven. I waited probably twenty minutes, talking with random strangers who entered the store and also looking around at all the beautifully intricate and old designs--most of which I remember seeing when they were at their finest.
A bell dinged at the front door. Turning around I saw my two best friends walk in. My grin widened at the sight of them together. They looked so cute. I slyly winked at Peggy as Steve was busy looking around the place in awe. Peggy gave me a playful glare in response.
"Hello." I acknowledged them. The nodded back, Peggy not saying anything and Steve giving me a meek, "hi". We turned to the bookshelves, which took a moment to open up as our doorway into the secret laboratory. Peggy walked forwards with confidence and a cheeky-sneaky smirk, and I walked forwards to try to impress Steve. But even I was impressed by the sheer genius of the hidden door and secret laboratory! It was so cool to look at! Scientists walking everywhere, writing things on clipboards or eyeing us warily. Cables and sometimes weird equipment were passed as we trekked down the metallic hallways of steel. It was weird and unusually cool! Steve followed us with awe and uncertainty. MPs let us continued through until we reached the main room. The door was opened and we were greeted with an abnormally large room, scientists and bulky computers, as well as a cyro-pod looking device in the centre of the room below us.
Stairs rolled down either side of the railing Peggy and Steve held onto. Scientists stopped their chatter and cautiously looked up at us--mainly, at Steve. We saw the Doctor below. No one was moving, so I took initiative and began descending the metallic steps to the floor below. Peggy shook herself from her thoughts and from staring at Steve, and followed after me. I winked at her whilst Steve busied himself with admiring the technology, and Peggy just whacked my arm. Chuckling, I gripped where she hit and rubbed the pain away--she was somewhat amused.
That's good enough for me!
"Good morning." The Doctor greeted, shaking hands with Steve. A cameraman took a quick photo of Steve for a 'before experiment' type of documentation. "Please, not now." The Doctor sighed gently. "So; are you ready?" He asked Steve. Steve looked at the machine, then gave a meek nod and looked back at the Doctor. "Good. Please take off your shirt, tie and hat." He ordered softly before he walked away. Timidly, Steve did as he asked--awkwardly looking at Peggy and I before beginning to take the cloths off.
Peggy looked down with a blush the exact shade of her red lipstick, whilst I just crossed my arms and looked around the place. Once he was finished, the Doctor gestured for Peggy and I to stand off to the side with himself and then he directed Steve to the machine they'd be using to inject the Super Soldier Serum. Honestly, I don't know how he can do that. He's much braver than I am. I silently chuckled at his tense face. Rude of me? Probably; but he has the best expressions: Stern, Stern and Firm.
I sometimes wonder if he can be more than 'Serious Steve.'
Howard Stark came over and talked with the Doctor, but I decided to reassure Steve at least a little. I stepped forwards. "Hey," I smiled.
"H-Hey.." He nervously grinned back, before instantly dropping to a nervous frown once again. I smiled comfortingly.
"You'll do great, okay?" I squeezed his hands.
"Y-Yeah...o-okay.." He awkwardly agreed.
"I'll be up in the booth. Good luck to both of you." I nodded to the Doctor as well. Then, with one last, but quick, squeeze, I let go of Steve's hand and made my way to the booth--pulling Peggy with me. Soon, as we made our way up the metallic stairs on the other side of the room, began the Doctor's speech concerning the Super Soldier Serum and how it could benefit peace. I just couldn't get a sudden, sick and tightening feeling off my chest. Something was wrong and I felt it--but...something was wrong...with Bucky...
