All I could do was stand there frozen. My plan worked. It was my victory. My freedom. Not willing to risk anymore I had to force myself to grab the jeans that were thrown. Not caring about the discarded underwear or the blood in between my legs, I pulled them up opting to go commando. Taking my phone from the back pocket I double checked the time.
6:58. Perfect. I had enough time to get to the airport. Gathering my purse and suitcase from the closet I gave one final look to my now ex-husband and spit at him.
"I'm no one's," with shaking muscles I practically flew downstairs and out the front door. The cab I had called prior was already sitting and waiting, "I hope I didn't make you wait long," a small genuine smile spread across my lips as I jumped into the backseat.
"Not at all miss," the cabbie looked at me through the rear view and was in shock at the state I was in, "Should I be taking you to the hospital and not the airport, miss?"
"No please I need to catch my flight," the urgency in my voice must have been enough and the cabbie just nodded and drove, "If anything can we make a quick stop at a pharmacy?" Another short nod. With a sigh I rested my head back feeling all my muscles relax.
Ten minutes passed and a quick stop was made at a pharmacy for cream and bandages. The cabbie turned the front lights on which allowed me to see and cover the evidence of my past.
"Thank you," finishing up I looked at the cabbie.
"No problem, miss, and for what it's worth I'm glad you survived," he gave a kind smile. I could feel tears burn but blinked them away. The rest of the trip was silent.
Finally at the airport I tried to tip the cabbie heavily but he refused and just asked for a simple hug which I was more than glad to give.
"Good luck," he said before getting back into the cab and driving off as I waved him goodbye. Not wasting another moment I ran through security, pulling the boarding pass on my phone and was running to the gate. Finally seeing the letter and numbers matching ticket I could only exhale with relief to see that boarding hadn't even started yet. Sitting down it felt like I was melting into my seat. My breathing became so much more relaxed and I just kept inhaling and exhaling in long breaths. Tears again were threatening but I held them back. I did it. I'm free. All I could do was smile. Before boarding started my stomach had decided it was a good idea to grab a quick snack. From a coffee shop not far from the gate a croissant was purchased. It was warm and flaky and realizing just how hungry I was from not having eaten much dinner, it didn't even last a second. However, it severely backfired. The moment I popped the last piece of the croissant I felt sick having to run to the restroom. I almost didn't make it when the contents of my stomach quickly filled the toilet.
"Shit," I huffed out. The release made me feel 100 times better, "I guess it's my nerves," I convinced myself as I rinsed my mouth out in the sink. Leaving the bathroom the numbers on my pass were called out and people at the gate were boarding. Pulling my phone out I texted Ochaco.
BOARDING NOW CU IN A FEW HOURS!
DING!
OCHACO: CANT WAIT ILL BE THERE TO PICK YOU UP!
Putting the phone back into my pants back pocket I ran towards the gate with bags in hand. Finding my seat I melted once again into the seat and just smiled. I had done it. All my planning worked. All my hard work paid off. I was free. Pulling out my phone for the last time I double checked my bank accounts and made sure my private savings had the amount I remembered. I had already switched carriers and made sure there were no ties to Dante. That's when I noticed the glitter on my left hand. His wedding ring was still on my ring finger. The once beautiful diamond now looked tacky and reminded me of a collar. Lifting my hand high I slipped the large karat off and placed it in my jean front pocket. And with that all ties were cut. No longer was I Mrs. Fiore. I am my own person. I am Solasta once again.
