Running down the halls of Wellston Private High School, Isen had despair written on his face. He felt lost despite him knowing he was in Wallick Hall. He felt alone despite the other students lining the walls. He did not feel like himself.
Time felt slow to him but he kept on going down the hall. One thought kept circling in his mind - {Y / N}. He was praying she was in. It was not the typical worry for someone in school. It was not the typical 'they haven't been in for a day, I hope they're doing alright'. It was not the typical 'that haven't answered their phone, I hope they're doing alright.' Yet instead, he was not only hoping but instead praying and dreaming.
Why? Well, {Y / N} helped Remi, Blyke and Isen when Remi became X-Rei. But when things got real, {Y / N} did not stop, overwhelmed with dreaming for justice to be served to EMBER. Even though, they all (mainly Isen) tried desperately to let her give it up because of how dangerous it was. However, reality never set in to her and instead she simply wanted to help people who needed help.
So, Isen wondered around the school, his phone on the loudest volume, in case she texts or calls him, taking the long route to the 'Death Pool' paper. He remembered her vigilante name being on there. The last time he checked her name was being 'voted' on by some vile students but she was still in the 'PLACE YOUR BETS NOW!' column and, even though he did not want her on the paper at all, there is better then the 'DEAD LIST'.
He continued his way there, still keeping his eye out for to find her, still keeping an ear out for a notification on his phone. But nothing came as he came closer and closer to the paper.
Relief rushed over him and calmed his racing heart as he stared at her name still there in the cent(re/er) of the sheet. He placed his hand on his chest and let out a sigh of relief.
He wondered down the halls once more, nonchalantly and calmly. He still wondered were she were since he did not see her at the library, where they usually met at the beginning of the day, but shrugged it off.
Eventually, he got bored of his search for {Y / N}, and so when he found Remi and Blyke ambling by he joined them in the walk to class, asking them if they have seen her, to which they both shook their head.
When he strolled into class, he still did not see her. Confusion clouded him like his thoughts: 'Maybe she was too tired to come in today? Maybe she's ill?'
Class went by in a blink as well as the rest of school. He decided he would, once he was finished with his responsibilities in the Press, to go round to {Y / N}'s and see if she was alright.
After a normal time with the press team, he hopped on a bus, because she did not live on the school campus, and began his way to her home. Looking out of the window, the dark allies wondered by, buildings stood between them, the sky was dark with droplets melancholily tap, tap, tapping on the glass. After a few stops, he stepped off, thanking the bus driver quietly.
He went straight towards her home, and took notice that her curtains were pulled close, any light that could have flooded out onto the street was kept trapped inside. Ascending up the stairs, he got his fist ready to pound on the door if she did not answer swiftly.
Knock, knock, knock, knock! He heard movement from inside and, for the second time that day, relief rushed him.
Shadows were filled with gold as the white door was opened, unnervingly slowly. A {E / C} eye peeked out of the doorway, pupil dilated.
"Isen?" A raspy voice questioned. "What are you doing here?"
"What do you mean 'what are you doing here?'? I'm here because you haven't been at school or you haven't been answering your phone! I've been worried about you..." His voice trailed off.
"I've just been..." she paused, "tired. That's all, I should probably get back to sleep."
She began to close the door but he jumped and stopped it. He than violently pulled it open as wide it would go, went towards her and pulled her into a hug.
"Y'know if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here right? So are Remi and Blyke. But, you can always, always rely on me, okay?"
She hugged him back, "I know... I know. Thank you, Is, thank you."
Isen leaned up from his bed, the smile he had while he was asleep now completely erased. He knew that that could never happen. He knew that that could never happen ever again. He knew that the day before he saw the name on the death pool sheet. He knew he was missing her. He knew that he was dreaming.
