The loud crash of thunder and your absence in bed was what awoke Taylor. Your side of the bed was cold and when she looked toward the clock she noticed that it was well after four in the morning and she couldn't help but wonder where you had gone off to.
She climbed out of bed and started to look around for you. The lights were all off and the rooms were all empty; except for one room.
She could hear the rumble of the thunder as she made her way downstairs. The lights were on and you were snuggled up on the couch with the fluffy throw blanket thrown over you, to keep you safe from the storm raging outside.
She sat on the cushion beside you and slowly tugged the blanket off of your head. Your hair was messy and she couldn't help the giggle that fell from her lips upon seeing it. She brushed her hand through it and took a good look at you, and that's when she noticed the fear in your eyes.
"Baby? Are you scared of the storm?" She asked but there was no need for you to say a single word in response because as another crash of thunder hit and there was a strike of lightning nearby, lighting up the dark sky, you were tugging the blanket over your head once more.
She pulled it back off and enveloped you in her arms instead. She let you climb onto her lap and she held you close as you buried your face in her neck, clutching her shirt in your hands with every clap of thunder.
"I don't like it when it storms." You mumbled and Taylor just nodded her head and rubbed your back in response. "I know it can be scary, but I'm here with you. You know you're safe with me. I won't let you go."
A few seconds went by. The rain was pouring and you only found comfort within Taylor and her arms around you.
"Wanna go up to bed? You don't have to go back to sleep but I think you'll be a little more comfortable there."
You slowly nodded your head. You held onto her hand tightly as you went upstairs. You jumped occasionally when you'd see the sky light up or hear the thunder crash louder and louder each time.
But when you were back in bed and back in Taylor's arms you began to relax a little. You focused on the beat of her heart instead of the storm raging outside. She told you little stories and would pepper little kisses to your head to shift your mind elsewhere.
"Maybe the storms aren't so bad; as long as I have you."
Taylor smiled at your mumbled words. She looked down to find your eyes slipping shut and soon enough, you were out like a light as your mind and the storm started to calm down.
