"tobio~" a sweet voice called, the small boy looked up immediately recognizing the woman with the kind smile.

his face lit up and a smile broke out onto his face "okaa-san!" he exclaimed, getting up. he dropped the toy blocks he was holding and wrapped ran to his mother with open arms.

the other children glanced at the boy curiously, a small boy with orange hair that ran towards the blueberry boy. "kageyama!" he exclaimed, tobio stopped running towards his mom and stopped to look at the boy.

"hinata!" he said, hinata ran and hugged him, the boys eyes widened but he hugged back.

the h/c haired girl stood up and smiled at the two children warmly. tobio let go of the boy and walked to his mother. as the two walked out of the daycare tobio looked up at the girl.

"momma"

"yes dear?"

"i wanna play volleyball"

the girls eyes were wide "really? a-alright i'll try to buy you some shoes and whatever you need."

tobio smiled widely, they didn't have much money y/n was a single mother, but she'd do anything to see tobio smile.

the next day she bargained with the cashier at the sports store. "i-i'll pay you half of the money today a-and when i'm able to get the rest of the money i'll pay it!"

eventually she walked out of the store sighing as she got in her car. when she arrived at her house she called her son. "tobio" in that same sweet yet comforting tone.

the small boy ran into the living room, he had noticed his mom looked a bit stressed. the woman held out a wrapped box. he took it and opened the box gasping when he saw what was in it.

volleyball shoes and knee pads, the boy smiled happily putting the shoes on. "mom look they fit! they're so cool!"

the woman smiled again "there's one more thing honey.." she said holding out another box. tobio grabbed it and unwrapped it soon he saw a volleyball.

he almost cried out of happiness that day, hugging his mom tightly he went outside with the volleyball.

and though they didn't have enough money, the woman smiled kindly as her son played outside.

"i-i just don't know what to do koushi.." their voice trembled.

"it'll be okay y/n ju-"

"no it won't! i-i don't have enough money to pay for bills" the girl wiped tears away. her head was pounding, she was stressed out.

"how much do you owe?"

the girl glanced at the bills and at the notepad that had a number circled on it.

the girl burst out in tears "a-a lot"

"hey.. y/n it's going to be okay, why don't you ask tobio to help you? he's in high school now honey he should help you."

"i can't do that, i-" she'd feel guilty asking for money.

tobio quickly walked into his room tears threatening to spill. "all this time you've been struggling... why didn't you tell me?.." closing his door gently he slid down the wall covering his mouth.

the boy did poorly during his practice coach ukai had started to get concerned.

after one of his games tobio looked around "tobio" his mom called out with the same kind smile she's had for years. he couldn't look at her so instead of smiling and hugging her like he usually did he looked away and walked to someone else.
