Chapter One: Auditions

Riley

The atmosphere was tense at auditions in studio A and slightly awkward conversations were being held amongst the 20 or so of us. Although it was nice to see everyone after the break the tough auditions ahead was overbearing it.

Everyone there was either from A troupe or B troupe from last season, since they are the only people invited to audition for A troupe for the season ahead, so most of us knew each other and one another's capabilities.

The Next Step's owner Kate and our head choreographer Chris call us together to start the auditions. Butterflies suddenly fill my stomach.

My sister Emily looks over at me seeing my unease. "You'll be fine Riley. You'll smash it as usual," she says to me.

Even though some people at the studio don't like my sister, I will always stand by her. She's what inspired me to dance and she knows me so well. She plays the older sister role pretty well. Maybe too well. She's trying to fix my hair right now and she never gives up even when I tell her to fuck off like honestly I'm a grown ass woman.

Kate calls up the first four people to audition which is Emily, Daniel, Stephanie and West. Emily rocks it as usual. She's always been a great dancer. She was captain of A troupe last season and I'm sure she will be able to lead A troupe to victory at regionals this season. Daniel and West were really impressive I can tell they'll be in for sure. They have completely different styles of dancing and A troupe could really benefit from their varying styles of dance. Stephanie also did a simple but stunning routine. This is definitely going to be tough.

Next up Kate calls on Beth, Chloe, Charlie and myself to audition. Chloe started off and showed everyone she is definitely good enough for A troupe and should be moved from B troupe. Beth, another girl from B troupe struggled in her contemporary dance and fell. I looked around the room at everyone watching. They seemed to dismiss her after that. To be in A troupe you are not able to make mistakes, even under pressure.

I was up next.

"Riley, you'll do great! You always do!," Emily whispers in encouragement to me as I walk closer to Kate and Chris. I quickly jumped in after Beth walked past looking disappointed in herself. I felt every butterfly in my stomach change into energy as I started moving to the beat of the music, my confidence growing. I hear some of the other dancers cheer for me making me smile. Kate called up the next group signalling the end of my section of the audition.

"James, Eldon and Tiffany," she called. "Show us what you've got."

James being the show off he is started to show Kate and Chris his break dancing and started doing insane flips and handstands for them. He even came over to the five of us girls watching in the corner and started showing off his moves. He's always been such a player but I'm not falling for his 'charm' so easily.

Eldon started showing his contemporary styled dancing off to the judges. I was really impressed and I even think Emily was too. Eldon is obsessed with Emily and to finally see her taking a bit of interest in him was good for him. He had awesome form during his spins and flips and there is no doubt in my mind that Kate and Chris will choose him.

Tiffany was different to the rest of us girls because of her upbeat hip hop dance style. You can see as she is dancing that she is really enjoying herself and it is shown through her dance.

Just as Tiffany was about to finish a girl about Emily's age walks in, interrupting the auditions.

"Is this where the auditions for A troupe are being held?" The girl asked.

I can hear Emily muttering something bitterly about the girl not being eligible to audition because she isn't even in B troupe. Soon enough everyone is talking about this girl, wondering how she even heard about the audition.

Kate and Chris pull the girl aside to talk to her. I have no idea if they're going to tell her she can't audition because she isn't a part of the Next Step at all or if they're going to let her try out. Emily clearly isn't happy that she is here at all and even goes up to Kate and Chris and buts into their conversation with the girl.

All I can really tell us that Emily is not happy. She's putting on her fake smile. Not good. If this girl ends up staying Emily's not going to make life easy for her.

"Everyone, this is Michelle. She will be auditioning for A troupe in the last group along with Giselle."

Michelle blew everyone away with her dancing. It was incredible. I can see the surprise on everyone's faces as she throws not one but two ariels and not only that but her dance was so exciting and had me captivated. She is someone I would definitely want in A troupe.

Giselle is awesome at all types of dance and will easily fit into any group dance she is put in but acrobatic dancing is her forte. We don't have any other acro dancers in the studio and Giselle blew us away with her unique skills.

After all of the auditions have finished Kate and Chris tell us they'll be back with the 10 people who have made it into A troupe.

Everyone starts going up to Michelle, except my sister who is clearly pissed at how good Michelle is, and congratulates her. She deserved it after coming into a dance studio and making the bold decision to come and audition with people she didn't know.

Kate and Chris come back into the room. Everyone stops and their full attention is on them and the one piece of paper that determines who is the best of the best.

After Chris pins it up on the wall we all take a glance at each other and scramble to see if we made our audition worthwhile.

Riley is sassy because Scarlett wants her to be and that's kind of what I was thinking when I was watching Emily tying to fix Riley's already perfect hair in the show like bitch stop. This is kind of going to go off of the structure of the tv show but will most likely branch off because I don't actually watch it. Also this is the first ever fan fiction/piece of writing I've ever published so please keep that in mind.

My group are all writing fan fictions (all different fan fictions: Mine is Jiley, my friend Hannah's is Harry Styles, Sophia's is tvd and Georgia's is kind of a mix of most of her fandoms but focusing on tfios) for Scarlett (@snowscar) because she is leaving so you probably don't need to read these notes because it will probably be me asking her to buy me maoams or telling her about what's going on in my super interesting life every time I update. Feel free to read if you want but idk you probably won't want to.
