The next morning, Mikasa woke up in Levi's room after she had gone back to sleep with all her endless thoughts. She slowly pushes her body up in a sitting position and yawned while stretching her arms. She quickly gets off the bed and walks to the bathroom to wash her face. When she walks out to the living room she looks around to find Levi but sees nothing. Then she hears a noise coming from the kitchen downstairs so she walks down there to take a look. She sees a large kitchen area with every chef's dream setup in place along with nicely decorated cupboards and a small bar on the side filled with all kinds of alcohol and other beverages as well as a wooden box filled with small scratches and holes. The room perfectly cleaned without a single spot of dust to be seen.
"Good morning brat, took you long enough" Levi calls to her as he's cooking breakfast not even bothering to look at her. "Good morning" was all Mikasa said back as she went and sat down on one of the bar stools. She looks around the place astonished at the amount of effort it would take to keep such a place so spotless. "So then, have you decided?" he asks as he turns around with a small plate in his hand. On it were perfectly stacked homemade pancakes topped with a ton of chocolate syrup and a dash of whipped cream making a nice little design. He places the plate in front of her and quickly turns around and grabs a fork and knife before carelessly throwing them behind him. Mikasa saw the flying objects approach her and instinctively shuts her eyes as she hears a small thud next to her. When she opens her eyes she notices both the fork and the knife perfectly stuck in that wooden box next to her as well as Levi across from her now sitting with a plate of his own.
"You going to answer me?" he asks in his usual stoic demeanour as he cuts down on his pancakes. Mikasa gives him a quick glare before grabbing the cutlery from the box and answering. "I suppose I'll be staying here. The faster I learn the better" Mikasa calmly tells him before starting to eat. "Good. There is a spare bedroom next to mine that you can use and in half an hour we can go to your place and pick up anything you might need" he simply stated as he looks up from his plate to meet her silver orbs. Mikasa still baffled by how simple he makes this seem looks back at him.
"S-Sir, I mean Levi?" she stutters for a split second. "You have a question brat?" He asks while directing his attention to his plate. "Yes, why are you doing all of this? You barely know me" and as she said that he pauses eating and looks at her. Trying to figure out why himself, he says "Well I can see you're not doing so well so I decided to help. It was as much my fault as it was yours you ended up in this state." She looks at him and scans for any sign of expression on his face but of course nothing. She sighs and accepts his answer even though she still has a feeling he was not telling the whole truth.
After they both had finished their breakfast they went to take Levi's car and made their way to Mikasa's old apartment building. The ride there was filled with silence as they both had so much to think about but absolutely nothing to talk about. Neither cared too much however as they both enjoyed the silence. As they saw the old building Levi remembered why he asked her to stay with him. He couldn't let his apprentice live in such a place.
He was feeling uncomfortable being in such a filthy part of the city but as he stepped inside her apartment he noticed it was drastically cleaner than the rest of the neighbourhood, nowhere near his level of cleanliness but still impressive nonetheless. It was somewhat comforting for him to know his new housemate takes care of herself and her environment despite the rest of the apartment being basically in ruins. They both grab a few cardboard boxes Levi had in the boot of his car and went inside as Mikasa told him what to pack. They only spent 40 minutes packing as she didn't need much and the rest she could buy later on. Besides, this is only temporary... or is it?
As Levi finished packing the last box for her kitchen he made his way to find Mikasa and inform her they are ready to go but as he walked into the living room he saw her standing there with what looked like a picture frame of three people. Her family. As she kept staring at the photo her grip on the frame tightened and he decided to just leave her be for a few minutes to let her calm down before they leave.
On the ride back both were as silent as before only this time, the silence made both feel awkward. Levi wanted to ask about the photo and Mikasa wanted to ask him why he was staring at her as she caught him but decided not to say anything. They had almost made it back home but then...
"Detective Ackerman you are required at north Trost lane ASAP, I repeat detective Ackerman at north Trost lane ASAP. There has been a homicide over" the walkie-talkie strapped to Levi's belt started fuzzing with more officers being requested at the scene. "Oh this ought to be good" he says and quickly takes a turn at the nearest possible exit. "Levi? Wait are we actually going to a murder scene?" Mikasa asks with a bit of excitement in her voice. "Well I have been requested at the scene, and what better way for you to learn my teachings than to see me in action and even get involved in a case?" He says while quickly glancing at her for a few seconds before turning back to the road. He saw her eyes widen a bit as she was left speechless but decided to stay quiet and just wait till they arrive. This will her first lesson and her first real crime scene investigation she will take place and it's only two days after her initial interview.as much as she is confused she decides not to question it as she looks to her left to see a small alley with a couple of cops already there. This... is case 1.
