IN THE MAZE
The friends stand next to each other as they stare at the entrance of a stone maze, walls not as tall as one would expect for a labyrinth. Besides the maze, there's only black. Behind them, the ground fades into nothingness. The portal is still open next to them, as if waiting for them to enter the maze.
Leo – The walls are small, but I don't suppose we can just fly over them.
He sends a flare of demon magic upwards which bursts at the same height as the walls as it collides with an invisible force field.
Annie – Through the maze it is.
Kai – Maybe I'm in your maze. – Kai sings.
Leo – Lost my way. – Leo continues the song.
Kai – You know this song?!
Leo – Hell yeah, G(I)-DLE are queens.
Kai – Feels good having a cultured boyfriend.
Lucia – Boyfriend you say? My my, I didn't know it was already official.
Leo – Oh yeah, we asked each other, it was really cute.
Vance – Well congratulations!
Amanthiel – Indeed! You make a cute couple. Though we should probably worry about the maze.
Kai – For sure. Let's head in.
They walk together through the entrance of the maze, and the portal closes when they cross the threshold.
Leo – So here's the thing, I know that every movie ever shows people splitting into groups in these situations, I'd argue that not only in most of those movies there's always someone who dies, but also, even though I don't think this maze is dangerous per say, we need to reach the end together. And if someone gets to the exit they have no way to send a message to the others.
Kai – Yeah, I agree. I checked my phone just in case and we obviously have no cell service.
Annie – Yeah, sticking together is the smartest move.
Lucia – Question is, where do we go?
Lucia gestures to the three different pathways in front of them.
Vance – I don't think we have a way to tell which one is the best to start with.
Amanthiel – But what we can do is leave markings as we go to make sure we don't move in circles.
He extends his finger and light starts emanating from its tip. He drags his fingertip in a straight line on a nearby wall, leaving a glowing golden print on it.
Annie – Good thinking, now let's get going.
They start moving together down the left path. They explore all the possible routes which are all dead ends.
They return to the starting point where Amanthiel drew the first mark, and go down the middle path. Again, all the options lead to dead ends.
Once they return, they go down the right path, and again, only find dead ends.
They return to the starting point.
Leo - I don't know 'bout y'all but I'm pissed off.
Lucia – This maze is fucking impossible, we've been tricked!
