Roman's POV

My brother and I hadn't had electricity for about a month now but we still have water. I'm trying to find a job, it's just hard adjusting to NYC. My brother helps pay most of the bills and plays in a band. He's the bassist and sometimes I sing with them to help out a little.

"I'm heading out," I grabbed my keys, laptop, and other supplies off the console table near the door. "Don't be gone too long!" My older brother shouts back. Walking out the door and down the hall, I hum to myself and think about what will happen today. I press the yellow button with the downwards arrow and wait.

... Footsteps come from behind me. Two sets. One walking at a faster pace and the other is heavy. "Logan, can we please audition for something together?" A freckled girl with glasses about 5'2" moves her undercut curly hair out of her face. "I'll consider it, but right now our priority is the band," The guy she was with said. He's about 5'7", short straight hair, glasses, and small stubble beard. He looked up at me once he got closer, "May I ask why you're staring at us, Roman?" "That's how I know you! You looked so familiar. Sorry Logan, Patton."

I looked down at them smiling. Ding. The elevator doors opened and we all got in, I went last. "What floor?" I asked trying to be polite after that awkward encounter. "Lobby please," Patton replies joyously. My hand reached out and pressed the "L" button.

Patton and Logan are apart of the band that I perform with. I haven't really taken the time to get to know them yet, but they've always been really nice to me and Remus.

Ding. The elevator doors slide open and I exit and start speed walking down the street. New York City is super crowded, I'm constantly bumping into people as I walk down Bleeker St.

I finally get to my favorite cafe 'Cozy Condescending Coffee'. I think it's a pretty funny name. Pushing open the glass doors, I look around me and only see Janus at the counter. I walk up, "Hey Jan, where's Remy?" "Oh, Hi Roman. Remy's restocking the back, I can call him over if you want?" Janus replies. "No thank you. I'll just get my usual." I look on as they types my long ass order into the tablet.

Janus is non-binary (he/they) and stands at about 5'6". They have amazing golden eyes, beautiful freckles, and a scar on their left cheek. Their black hair flows around them as they continue typing. It's about shoulder length when down, and cut into a soul-hawk. Right now it seems to be pulled into either a ponytail or bun.

"Uhm.. hello? Roman?" They ask trying to get my attention. "Mm? Oh yes, that'll be all. Thank you." I give him a soft smile (and my money). He starts to make my drink, as I walk over to a seat and pull out my journal and laptop to brainstorm.

The cafe isn't very crowded right now, there's about ten people. I write my notes as I look around the cafe taking inspiration from the people around me. Then Patton and Logan walk in. I borrow Patton's haircut for one of the supporting characters and Logan's personality for that characters love interest.

"Remy! Are you done yet? Can you help Lo and Patton?" Janus tells into the back while he walks over to where I am and sits down across from me. "Hey Ro." They say getting my attention. "Hey."

"What are you writing about?"

"Oh just continuing to write my musical."

"Wow. You're incredible! Your talent amazes me."

"Uhm, you really think so?"

"Yeah, you're an incredible person."

We talk as I work for a couple hours until their shift's over and I have to leave. It's nice talking to him. I've known them for about two years and I'm gonna admit that I'm a simp.

They look at me, smile, leave a napkin with something written on it, and leave. As I'm packing up, I look at it.

Dinner at Maggie's tomorrow @ 7?
