MATT POV
We pulled away from the sweet hug, and before I had a chance to catch hold of my feelings, Mello pressed his lips against mine. At first, I stood there, taken aback. But after a couple seconds, I closed my eyes and kissed him back. His tongue entered my mouth. It was sweet, like chocolate.
After a minute, we pulled away.
"Wow," a voice said from next to us. "I wasn't expecting this." I looked next to me to see Near. Shit.
"You tell a single soul, you little shit, and I'll--" Mello started, but was cut off by Near.
"I won't," Near grabbed my wrist. "At least, I won't if you leave me alone with Matt for a minute..." I tugged my wrist away from Near's grasp, but he wouldn't let go of me. Damn, this kid was stronger than he looked!
"Whatever," I said. "It's fine, Mello. If he tries anything, you know what I'll do." I really only said that to sound threatening. I'm not as much of a badass as Mello, but Near doesn't know that, I don't think.
Mello huffed and marched down the fire escape. "What do you want?" I turned to the albino boy standing next to me.
"I merely want to inform you of something I think you'll find useful."
"God, do you have to be so proper?" I said. I hate the way he talks.
"You may want to watch out from now on," He said, ignoring me. "I overheard some kids in the cafeteria this morning. They were talking about ambushing 'the kid with the goggles.'" he said, making quote symbols with his fingers.
"Yeah, right. Why should I believe you? You hate us and we hate you." I pushed my goggles off of my face and twirled them around my finger.
"See, the thing is," he said with a smirk. "I don't hate you particularly. Hate the sin, love the sinner, as they say."
"Who were the people who supposedly said that?"
"I don't know their names, but they look pretty big. I would avoid them if I were you."
"Well, you're pretty small," I said, turning to leave, "Everything is big when you're that small."
"Believe me, or don't, whatever you want." He said, following me.
"Why are you following me?"
"This is the only way off of the roof. The door to the stairs inside is locked."
MELLO POV
What does that idiot want with my boy? He better not make any moves on him!
I ran down the stairs of the fire escape and opened the red door that leads inside. I ran down the hall to me and Matt's room. I slammed the door and sat down on my bed. I had been waiting for this day to come since I acknowledged my feelings for him, and then some shit-head has to come ruin it! I'll get him back soon. I heard footsteps coming down the hall. I quickly ran to the door and opened it a sliver. Roger was walking behind an annoyed Matt. I opened my door more and ran up to them.
"What happened?" I asked. "What did he want?"
"Nothing." Matt whispered.
"Go back to your room, Mihael." Roger said to me. I caught a glimpse of Near behind the man. I glared at him and continued to follow them.
"What's happening? Where are you taking him?" I said, starting to get scared. What had happened? Was it Near's fault? Who am I kidding, it's always Near's fault!
"It is nothing serious, now please go back to your room!" Roger said, continuing down the hall. I reluctantly agreed and walked back to my room, snatching one last angry glance at Near. What was going on?
MATT POV
That little shit broke my goggles! He knows they're prescription, and yet he hits them out of my hand! It was more than that, though. They were the only memory I had of my parents. I didn't just need them to see, I needed them to feel. The idiot watched them fall down to the concrete below the building. He didn't even apologize!
BEFORE (I don't know how to phrase this...)
I was about to put my goggles back on, when I heard a yelp from behind me. Near came tumbling down the stairs and crashed into me. My goggles flew from my hand and over the banister.
"No!" I yelled and tried to catch them, but they were just out of my reach. They fell to the ground, around 20 feet down. I fell to my knees and started to cry. Those goggles were more than what they seemed. They didn't just help me see, but my mom gave them to me just before she left me. I was only around four when she gave me to Watari and the orphanage. I watched as my only memories of my real family shattered. Near let out a gasp and ran to get Roger.
I covered my face with my hands as I felt a pair of large hands lift me up to my feet. The four Rogers looked me in the eye. He told me to calm down and that we could get me another pair. I wasn't paying attention, though. Even if they did get me another pair, they wouldn't be the same. I struggled out of his grasp and ran down the stairs to grab what was left of the frames. I clutched the shattered memories.
BACK IN THE PRESENT (I'm really bad at saying things.)
We walked to Watari's office and the two adults started to talk. Near walked over to me.
"Why did you cry?" He asked in a hushed voice. I ignored him. "Were those important to you?" He kept asking questions. I couldn't stand it anymore!
"YES, OKAY?!" I snapped at him. Roger and Watari stopped they're conversation. "THEY WERE IMPORTANT TO ME! THAT WAS ALL I HAD LEFT OF MY PARENTS AND YOU BROKE IT! Y-YOU BROKE THE ONE THING TH-THAT I HAD L-LEF--" I broke into tears in front of them. I sank to the floor again and didn't get up. Near backed away from me.
"I'm sorry..." he said in a small voice. "I didn't know. It was an accident..." I could hear his voice start to shake. Good. He deserved to cry. He deserved to go into a total despair, just like I was.
I heard running footsteps coming towards us. The door slammed open and Mello came rushing in.
"What happened?" I heard him say. "I heard Matt, where's Matt?!" He looked around the room and saw me on the floor. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" He shouted at Near. "YOU LITTLE BITCH, WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?!"
