It was Hannah's first day of school, and Lex's first day of job searching.
Hannah walked the two blocks to school, furiously going over her backstory and details of her made up life in her head, her anxiety bubbling over. She sat down on the curb and started to take deep breaths. How was it that all of her history was just gone? Everything Hannah Foster had ever said or done was dead along with her name. Hannah got up and reminded herself that she was no longer Hannah Foster, she was Kendall Lang. She walked down the street until she saw the sign for her new school come into view. Los Angeles Middle. She stalled a little before taking a deep breath and walking inside.
Lex had made sure Hannah knew her way to school, inputing directions on the phone that PEIP had issued. After both the girls made sure everything was ready, Hannah with key in hand, Hannah was gone and Lex was left to an empty house. Lex stood against the door breathing deeply, until she decided to be productive and got her laptop.
Lex sat down on the couch, and opened the laptop that she was able to salvage from her trailer. It was old and beaten up but it worked so Lex used it. She began scrolling through listings and ads, applying for everything she could. It was still weird to be typing out Angela Lang instead of Lex Foster, but she shook off the weirdness and continued filling out applications. Lex's heart was still set on being an actress but right now she had to think practically, there's no way an acting career would provide a steady income so instead, she filled out applications.
Hannah walked into her first class and felt intimidated, the class clearly had a seating chart and friend groups were talking and laughing before the teacher came in. Hannah stood at the front of the class against the wall, keeping her head down as to not be picked out by any classmate. Unfortunately, the teacher had other ideas.
"Good morning class! Welcome back! Hope all of you had a great winter break." A young woman rushed in the room blowing past Hannah and setting papers down on her desk. The class immediately calmed down and sat still, this teacher was clearly respected. She finally took notice of Hannah, "Today we have a new student, Kendall Lang. Kendall would you like to introduce yourself?"
"Um, sure. Thank you." Hannah got up and played with a thread on the end of her yellow flannel as she spoke, "Hi, I'm Kendall, just moved here from Washington D.C."
"Great well we're all glad to have you, I'm Ms. Green and I'll be your homeroom teacher for the rest of the year. You can sit in that empty seat back there" Ms. Green pointed to the back of the room and Hannah quickly sat down, pushing tears from her eyes, while the teacher began taking role, "Taz? Ron? Alice? Bridgett? Cedric? Gary? Emberly?" Ms. Greens' voice began to fade as Hannah was caught in her own thoughts. Everything reminded her of her old life and she couldn't take it anymore. She put her head down, continuing to fiddle with the string on the flannel until she snapped her head up at the mention of a name, "Hana?" Hannah felt fear ridden, carefully inspecting the room to see who raised their hand.
A meek hand rose from next to her. The girl was small in figure, had her brunette hair up in butterfly clips and had round glasses perched on top of her nose. Hannah's gaze punctuated thee side of her head before the girls head turned and Hannah quickly looked away.
The day went by fairly uneventfully, until lunch. Hannah walked into the giant cafeteria, paralyzed by fear. The noise and uncertainty was too much too handle, soon images of Black Friday began flashing through her mind. These kids are almost as insane as those crazed shoppers and Hannah couldn't help breaking down a little. She started to slip when she felt a hand hold her back up.
"Hey are you okay?" It was Hana, she was balancing a tray in one hand and moving her other behind Hannahs' back to steady the shaking girl, "Kendall, right? Here you can come sit with us if you want?" Hannah nodded to both questions and started to walk with the smaller girl, glad she had her support. Otherwise both Hannahs' lunch would be and Hannah herself would be on the floor.
