I was hesitant to say that Marella could come over. It was generous of her, of course, but I wasn't sure if I ever wanted to talk to a girl again... at least for a few months. Now, I'm glad I accepted her offer. For the few hours she was there, she made me forget about Stina entirely. I was only thinking about her. How good she was at playing tag. The hilarious way she managed to get sauce all over her face when we had our spaghetti dinner. The way her smile lot up the world. My world, at least. And then her eyes. Big, I've blue eyes. The same color as Keefe's, and yet somehow prettier.

I started to sigh, but caught myself. I glanced at my clock. Roughly five minutes had passed since I had sat down on my bed, lost in thought. I looked down at myself, realizing that I had her  halfway through changing into my pajamas. My bare chest stared up at me, and for whatever reason, I felt a blush coat my cheeks. No one was there, right? So why was I blushing? It just felt a little... strange to be thinking about a girl while shirtless in my bedroom. I shivered, but convinced myself it was from the lack of a shirt, and finished changing into my pajamas.

"Hey Dex, how was your date?" Lex asked as I tried- and failed- to cross the hallway to the bathroom unnoticed.

"It wasn't a date,"  said calmly, pushing Lex aside. But there were more where became from.I

"Is Marella your girlfriend?" Rex pestered, popping up in front of me, following Lex's lead.

"No," I told him, teeth gritted.

Lex's turn again. "Did you kiss?"

"No."

"I bet you did!"

Bex, of all people, came to my rescue.

"He's telling the truth. They didn't," she said from her bedroom doorway. "I was watching them the whole time."

"BEX!" I scolded, whirling around to face her.

"Yeah, I don't believe that. Plus, you were on a date, too," Lex said.

"It was NOT."

"Yes it was~" Rex sang, then proceeded to make kissy faces at her. She responded by slamming her door.

The boys turned back to me, their face covered with evil little grins.

I darted for the bathroom door to brush my teeth. I knew they'd be waiting for me when I came out, but I would rather postpone the torture than live it all at once.

That night, I was in luck. My mom came upstairs minutes later, sending the swarm of little children hovering the bathroom door to bed.

"You can come out now, Dex," she said wearily.

Slowly, I opened the door.

"They were bugging you about Marella, weren't they?" She asked knowingly.

I nodded.

"She was the one who left you that muffin, wasn't she?"

I thought for a second, but eventually nodded again, remembering the note.

My mom smiled. I ignored it.

"Well, you better get some sleep. You have school tomorrow."

I nodded for a third time, and said, "Goodnight, mom,"

"Goodnight, Dex." She kissed my forehead, and went back downstairs. I went into my room.

I lay on my bed for about half an hour before starting to fall asleep. All at once, a memory rushed into my mind and my eyes popped open.

Love, Marella.

Did Marella... love me?

I smiled, hoping against my better judgement that she did, and fell fast asleep.

I had the most wonderful dreams that night.

Marella was in all of them.
