'SLYTHERIN!'
Silence. Pure and deafening silence overtook the hall. Three claps then followed, each from Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Then, as if a dam was opened, whispers broke out.
Harry paid no mind to it as he walked confidently towards his house's table. He sat next to Draco who's pureblood mask is set firmly in place, but the happiness is still pronounced clearly through his eyes.
After a minute, the sorting continued once the professor got over her initial shock. Harry tuned it out and instead opted to look at the Head table. Upon seeing Dumbledore's unusually grim face, with the usual twinkle in his eyes gone, Harry had to bite his lips to stop himself from smirking. Oh how he loves seeing that look on the old man's face.
Feeling someone looking at him, he turned his head only to meet onyx eyes staring intently at him. Severus Snape, his head supplied. His dad had told him about this man once when he asked about his parents. If he remembers correctly, this was the man who brought the fake prophecy to the dark lord and was his mother's best friend. And is...
Nodding slightly in acknowledgement, he almost missed the surprised look that went through the dark eyes before he looked at the other one who was looking at him from the very beginning. A man that has fear written all over his face and wearing a purple turban came into view. He could have sworn he saw the face switch from scared to calculating briefly and a flash of red pass through the man's eyes before it was gone once again.
" That man houses the cheater's soul" his dad's voice rang in his head, and he internally smacked himself on the head. 'Of course. How could I not have noticed the dark magic sorrounding the man.
He was broken out of his thoughts when the everyone quieted as the headmaster stood up and delivered some insane speech that if Harry didn't know how manipulative the old man truly is, he would have brought the act and dismissed him as senile.
Food then appeared and everyone served themselves. He was very much thankful that he wasn't sorted into Gryffindor. Merlin knows the house looked like barbarians set on loose. He felt sympathy for Neville when he saw him trying very hard to eat his meal civilly among ruffians.
"So Potter..."
Harry hearing the voice looked up from his food and saw a dark skinned boy. "Yes?" He asked politely.
The boy looked at him calculatingly before seeming to nod in approval before offering his hand. "Blaise Zabini. I bet it was a shock to you when you were sorted into the house of snakes. Considering who your parents were and who you are, I'm pretty sure everyone is"
He shook the hand offered before answering. "Well, I'm not my parents and I could care less about 'status' in the wizarding world. Plus, I'd say the hat was right to sort me into the snakes pit" he smiled rather endearingly and to the outside it was, if it weren't for the fact the they we're Slytherins and seeing the dark look in those emerald eyes brought shivers to those that were eavesdropping.
Zabini seemed to accept this as a reasonable answer and went back to eat. After the feast, Dumbledore stood once more to give another speech, to which Harry could care less.
He did however perk up upon hearing about the third floor corridor. 'Interesting' he thought 'why would he say those words to a bunch of children who will no doubt be curious and could possibly give in to their curiosity enough to visit said floor. What are you up to this time old man'
They we're then dismissed to their dorms. Harry walked along with his fellow year mates with Draco and Zabini on either of his side. All the while, he was thinking on what could possibly be so important on the third floor corridor for Dumbledore to give that kind of warning.
