Chapter 18: In Need of a Chaperone

"Papa?" Snow White blushed as she let go of Prince Merlin's arm.

"Now, I know you two are very special to one another. But I must admit that I doubted Merlin for quite a while. Even if he did save us all, I don't believe you two should be going around alone all the time, thus you'll either need to be engaged or have a chaperone with you." King White said sternly.

"Yes Papa." Snow White nodded as Prince Merlin frowned slightly, then blushed upon thinking about Snow White becoming a blushing bride all in white.

"I'll keep a good eye on them your majesty." Arthur appeared as Prince Merlin groaned.

"You've got to be bloody kidding me!" Prince Merlin gritted his teeth.

"Hey Arthur." Snow White smiled.

"Ok, who are you?" Arthur asked.

"She's Red Shoes." Prince Merlin said.

"What, but you don't look like Red Shoes, and you're not wearing red shoes."
"That's because the shoes were magic." Prince Merlin looked down at Arthur.

"So the shoes Red Shoes had were magic?"
"Yes."
"So where's Red Shoes?"

"Snow White is Red Shoes. When she wore the red shoes, they changed her appearance. The shoes were magic, that's why Regina wanted them."

"So what happened to the shoes?"
"They were destroyed when Regina was."

"Oh. Well, nice to meet you Princess Snow White."
"Arthur, we've already met. I'm the same person, this is just how I really look, without the shoes on." Snow White smiled.

"So where are they?" Arthur asked again.

"Would you just stand over there and pretend to keep an eye on us? I really need to discuss something important with Snow White." Prince Merlin half asked, half ordered.

"Sure, but where's Red Shoes?"

"Ugh!" Prince Merlin was exasperated.

"Come on, Merlin, let's go over here." Snow White gingerly pulled his arm as the two sat down on a bench near a Cupid fountain.

"Ok, so I know this is usually the part where the prince kneels and proposes to the princess, but can I be honest? I'd really love to get to know you more before we get married." Prince Merlin asked somewhat shyly as Snow White bit her lower lip.

"You know, I really like that idea. There's still so much I want to do before I get married, rule a kingdom, and start a family." Snow White nodded as she looked up at the sky again.

"You look lovely tonight." Prince Merlin sighed as Snow White looked at him with surprise.

"Are you getting all mushy and romantic on me?" She teased.

"Maybe I am." Prince Merlin cupped her face as she closed her eyes and they began kissing. It was a memorable night; they talked for hours as Arthur kept watch, Prince Merlin promised to propose (but he needed a ring first), and they danced the night away. Prince Merlin had to go back home and Snow White had to soon catch up on her studies. Though she did well studying, she often found herself day dreaming about Prince Merlin and his handsome face; she blushed whenever she recalled the times they had kissed. Though they had only known each other for a week, they knew they were meant for one another.
