Circle of Hate

I watch him hurt you

He’s done it again

I cry your tears for you

I feel your pain.

Can’t stand the screaming no more

I want to break out

I know what’s coming to me,

The same thing, no doubt.

I watch him leave,

And throw daggered words

You crumple down

The pain’s beyond words.

My heart breaks with yours

I want to reach out

But your eyes show the hatred

And you start to shout.

You call me the names that he called you

I cry the tears that we cried

It’s a circle of hate

It’s the world’s age-old fight.

It’s an unbroken circle

Even love can’t defeat it

If a child can’t break it,

There’s no way to defeat it.

Because…

Once upon a time someone hurt him

Then you came along and he hurt you

Then you both had me and when

He’s over and done

You turn on me and take it all out.

You’re not strong enough to break it

I was your blessing but you didn’t see it

So now we stand here, three separate people.

The years have taught me strength

But it’s the tough and hard kind,

Erased all my good.

See, the world will teach you,

But only how to survive

Only God and His Grace can teach you

More,

How to live.

I’ve found the key that unlocks it

The weapon which every circle breaks

Its forgiveness, and I’ve forgiven you.

And him.

I’m free again:

I’ve broken the circle,

I’ve found the oil’s water;

Forgiveness washes over me.

When I drink it, I know I’ve got power

When you hate, you’re only a prisoner

So I’m done.

I’ve found the end

To that which seemingly had no beginning.

Love and a child, each alone, cannot conquer

Hate is too strong for the other.

But forgiveness is weak, and through hate it seeps

Brings up to light

Lets you see

It’s over,

I’m done.
