Homesick

I unlock my door. I can't believe my first day is already over.

I set down my bag by the dog bowls and hang up my cardigan.

I set down my keys next to my favorite painting of a field  I don't know why I love it so much. I guess it just gives me deja vu.

"Star!" I call out. I hear the paws running on the wood as she comes running from around the corner.

I kneel down and hug her.

"I missed you girly!" I kiss her little black nose.

I grab one of the metal bowls and grab the small scoop to fill her food up. She wags her tail as she sits down.

After I've fed her I decide I need to go do some laundry. I pick up some of my clothes of the ground and throw them into my basket.

"Star you gonna help me clean when I get back?" I ask her in my squeaky puppy voice. She tilts her head and wags her tail.

I grab her baby blue harness and clip the little buckle on her back trying not to get any hair stuck on it.

I grab the leash and wrap it around my wrist as I lock the door behind me. I smile down at Star as she gallops towards the elevator with her pink tongue sticking out.

As we enter the elevator I feel the buzz of my phone in my pocket. I let the basket rest on my leg as I quickly pull out my phone.

Lexie Bear

I answer it quickly and hold the basket again.

"Hey Lexie!" I smile.

"Kara! So.... how'd it go?" She practically yells into my ear.

I step off the elevator and step onto the sidewalk keeping Star close to me.

"It went better than expected actually." I laugh.

"How are your coworkers. Did you meet your team yet?"

"Yeah. Yeah I did. They're all really nice."

"Any handsome ones?"

"Lexie!" I laugh.

"What? Am I not allowed to ask?" She giggles.

"I guess there are some handsome men on my team." I laugh.

Star is now sniffing at the ground as we enter the Laundromat.

"Oh! So it's not just men?" Lexie laughs as I set the basket down.

"Nope. There's actually 3 other women!" I tell her.

"Wow! Talk about women power am I right?" Lexie laughs.

God I miss Lexie. I haven't seen her since I started training for the BAU. And that was about 2.5 years ago.

"I know right!"  I place the clothes into the washing machine and pour some softener and detergent into the small tray.

"Anyways, I miss you Kara!"

I sigh. "I do too Lexie. I wish I could visit you and Aunt May but you know how a new job is. Especially now that I'm actually in the BAU."

I hear Lexie sigh. "I know I know. But you'll be able to visit for my birthday and Christmas right? Cause I haven't seen you since you were 21. God what are you now, 23?"

"Yes Lexie, I'm 23." I laugh. Lexie is only 2 years older than me. She's more of my sister than cousin though considering I lived with her almost my whole life.

"Well, I better get going to work." Lexie sighs.

"Talk to you again soon?" I ask. I wish I could just hug her.
