He was a man who had nothing but his smile. Superficial and shallow, he could only entertain those whose interests were in passing. The court clown—it was who he was. There'd be no one behind his mask. No one to stay when the jokes were told, the party over.

He lived his life rather empty. Lovers came and went, none lasting the way he wanted. What was he doing wrong? What subsistence were they craving of him? What personality was he lacking? He became skilled at camouflaging himself into the temporary relief, the part-time perfect boyfriend. The act never lasted long enough.

As the years passed, his insecurities grew with him. The handsome teenager became a charming man, and he found ways to be someone. Not just the rich boy, nor the professors' son, nor the pretty face. He understood that he could adapt aspects into his life to be something. A husband. A teacher.

A cheater.

Then his lies fell apart like a house of cards. Once again, he had nothing. Nobody to laugh at the punchline, no one to watch the joker dance.

That's when he found her. She was like him—her masks were countless as she shed one for another. But then why was it that she had everything? People chased her. She was sought after, unrelentingly and lovingly. People loved her despite not knowing what laid in the depts of her heart, the unknown seas of her mind.

Suddenly, it hit him. He was doing it all wrong. He didn't need every heart—only she who held the heart of them all.

If she was the queen of hearts, he would be the King of Everything.
