Whatever happened during breakfast that worried Kadron now had me on edge as well. He was in his hyper-alert mode and was constantly checking the windows and doors.
I didn't bother to ask him about it though because he would just brush it off and say it's nothing again.
So here I was, sitting on the couch in the living room watching some sappy romance movie with Neri while Kadron stalked the perimeter of the house.
Nothing much happened the rest of the day, save for Kadron sternly telling us all not to leave the house tonight. And with that, everyone except Kadron had gone to sleep.

I was walking down to the kitchen to make myself a midnight snack. Coming down the stairs, I caught a shadow moving in the corner of my eye.
"Hello?" I called out quietly, hoping not to wake anyone up or startle whatever it was making that shadow.
It seemed to have heard me because it quickly dashed into the living room.
I followed, hoping to catch another glimpse of the thing, but it was gone. Turning back to the kitchen, I saw it again. I stared at it, and it stared back with two white circles I assumed were eyes. It stood motionless.
As if instinctively, I reached my hand out to touch the creature, and as if copying my motions, it reached a misty hand towards me as well.
Our fingertips, or what I thought were its fingertips and mine, touched, and a sudden warm feeling came over me, and I smiled.
The mist smiled back, sharp white teeth formed into a grin just underneath the two blank circles. It was kind of creepy, but I stayed calm through all of this with a sense of familiarity, as if this were something I had known for years.
Suddenly, the mist jumbled together to form a more humanoid figure. Shifting before my eyes, I could soon see a person standing before me with the palest skin, gaunt, sharp features, and long chocolate brown hair pulled into a loose low ponytail.
The figure had eyes that were almost completely white, with light silver irises surrounding the area where a pupil should be. Instead of a pupil, I found only white. They looked about the same age as Kadron, 19, but taller.
Looking at me with the warmest smile, the figure took my hand and gently brought it to their lips before turning into mist again and gracefully flying out towards the open kitchen window.

Monday, June 2nd (6:00 a.m.)
I woke up in my bed, quite confused as to what the hell my dream was about. A person made of black mist, with silver eyes and no pupils and long chocolate hair.
Who, and what, were they?
At the foot of my bed I could see the top of Kadron's mess of hair. I crawled out from under my covers and padded lightly over to the end of the bed where he was sitting, crouching in front of him and taking in his figure.
His eyes, outlined by dark circles, were darting back and forth between the bedroom window and the door. His shoulders were slightly slumped over, and his legs were extended out in front of him.
He was practically a zombie.
"Hey, did you stay awake all night?"
Kadron's tired eyes locked onto mine, wordlessly answering my question.
I sighed.
"Look, I know you're on edge and trying to protect everyone from whatever you saw yesterday, but you need to sleep. I can get Rodan to watch the house."
He opened his mouth to protest, then closed it again, knowing full well he wouldn't win, especially in his current state. Sighing, he nodded, stood up, and crawled into my bed.
He was out like a light in mere seconds.
I kissed his forehead gently, left the room, and made my way to the basement to talk to Rodan. I knocked twice, waiting for a response.
Rodan opened the door a few moments later, a tired expression on his face. He yawned.
"What's up, Celeste? Need something?"
"Yeah, could you watch the house? I just had Kadron lie down since he was patrolling the house all night."
"The whole night? Why?" Rodan's eyes widened in surprise and confusion.
"He's a little paranoid that there is something or someone trying to get into the house."
"All right then, give me a second and I'll be right out."
"Thanks, Rodan."
"Yeah, it's nothing."
I moved back upstairs to the kitchen to make Kadron and myself some breakfast.
As I poured milk onto my cereal, I caught a glimpse of a shadow out of the corner of my eye. Turning to look, I found nothing there but the kitchen cupboards.
I turned back around, and there it was.
Just like in my dream, a black mist hovered before me, white pupil-less eyes staring me down. Just as before, when I moved my hand out, it copied my motions. When I smiled, that same sharp-toothed grin appeared in response.
The fog came together, forming the same person that was in my dream last night, with the same sharp features, the same eyes, the same low ponytail holding long chocolate hair.
I swallowed.
"Who are you?"
They brought a finger to their lips as if to silence me, before winking and leaning closer to me. Their eyes looked me up and down, then took my hand in theirs and placed a gentle kiss against the back of it.
They then became mist once more before disappearing into the shadows by the window.
I stood in the now empty kitchen, still trying to wrap my head around what exactly had just happened and what I was going to do about it.
Rodan walked up the basement steps and spotted me staring at the window. Walking up to my side, he looked between me to the window, then back to me.
"Whatcha looking at?"
"Hm?"
"You seemed pretty fixated on the window, so I wanted to know what you were looking at."
"Oh, um..." I didn't know if I should tell him. "I don't know."
"O-kay." Rodan left my side to begin patrolling the area like Kadron did last night.
