taehyung gasped as another punch contacted his gut.

"s-sto-p." but why did he even bother? it wasn't like his father was going to listen to him.

"you worthless piece of shit!"

cuts lined his honey thighs and bony arms, blood gushing out of them. bruises messily dotted his torso, some yellowing and new ones blooming in pools of reds and purples.

he was punched again. and again. they seemed endless.

after his dad was tired out, he left the kitchen, but not before slamming his beer bottle onto the floor, causing glass to shatter everywhere.

taehyung winced, groaning as he reached up to the counter to grab a hold of his phone.

he quickly typed, hands trembling, into his phone and pressed "send," biting his lip nervously. he grabbed a paper towel off the roll next to the sink and used it to wipe blood off the ground, being careful not to step on the glass. they were like thorns on a rosebush, waiting to pierce through him and tear him apart.

his phone buzzed.

ok. meet me at the park in 10.

he sighed in relief, throwing on a black hoodie which covered completely his thin frame, then hopped onto his bicycle.

the blue bike creaked slightly as it moved along the paved road. taehyung grunted and panted heavily due to the force he was exerting peddling his bike as well as the loss of blood. it was besides the fact that he also hadn't eaten for a few days.

taehyung's muscles and bones were incredibly sore and with every movement more tears dripped down his face, hidden under the hood of his sweatshirt.

he eventually reached the park and parked his bike in the stand, following the glint of the streetlights lining the path towards a figure on a bench.

the dark but visibly muscular figure made its way up to him and delicately embraced him in a hug, pulling back the boy's hood to kiss his temple.

"come sit here, tae."

the boy sat taehyung down on the wooden park bench, making sure he was comfortably seated before pulling out a first aid kit.

"thank you, gguk," he sighed as the other boy began to apply bruise cream and small bandaids onto his skin.

"what did he do this time? it looks really bad." jungkook frowned and paused as he saw taehyung twitch from the pain.

"he.. did the usual. and broke some beer bottles. he was drinking again.." taehyung murmured quietly.

jungkook's hands fisted unconsciously, and he growled.

"what the hell."

taehyung put his hand on jungkook's arm reassuringly, wincing when he felt his cut reopen. "it's okay, gguk. don't get so mad."

he ran his hand through his midnight locks, then brought it to taehyung's face, rubbing his thumb soothingly over and over again over his smooth skin. taehyung didn't even realize he had been crying again.

"sorry, baby.." he frowned and leaned down to kiss taehyung's tears away.

"it's just.. really hard to see you like this all the time. and the fact i can't even do anything about it drives me insane! damn it!"

"it's not your fault, jungkook. it's not anyone's fault."

"yes!! yes it is. it's all your fucking father's fault!! he made you miserable. he made your life a shithole. he did all. of. this!!" he threw his hands up furiously.

taehyung winced at his harsh words, and jungkook saw this, his anger dissipating immediately. he sat back down next to his boyfriend and gently brought the elder's hand into his own.

"i'm sorry."

"it's okay," taehyung said softly. he wiped another tear from his cheek with his sweater paw and sniffled. "as long as you're here with me, i'll be okay."

jungkook smiled back, nodding once. it was one of those broken smiles, taehyung noticed.

after a few seconds of silence, where only crickets and fireflies could be heard in the surrounding dark night, jungkook spoke.

"so, where do you wanna go tonight, beautiful?"

taehyung lived for that sentence.

taehyung grinned, adorably creased eyes, boxy smile and all, which jungkook loved so much. jungkook lived for that smile.

"to the beach."

they ran side by side, their troubles long forgotten. taehyung left his pain and fears in the dust when he was with jungkook.

just like now, as he was running along the beach as if his life depended on it.

he could feel no longer the stinging of his cuts or the pulsing of his swollen bruises. his cracked heart, now pulsating, was brimming with a warm, bubbly feeling.

as they stood with their feet buried in the sand, dancing along with the stars in the night sky, taehyung looked into jungkook's eyes, finding himself unable to tear his gaze away.

jungkook's eyes. they sparkled with more stars than the milky way itself. stars glowing with blues, purples, whites. taehyung had never seen anything more beautiful.

sometimes jungkook would ask taehyung why he let his dad treat him that way. why he chose to accept the pain instead of fighting back. why he still went home every night.

with jungkook, he could escape his life; just for a moment.

and moments like these, when he could escape reality and be the best version of himself with the person he loved, gave him a reason to endure it all.
