Chapter 1

(A.N) Hi people! This is my first fanfic so yeah. Hope you like it!!!

I don't know what to do! The letter just arrived. I am freaking out!

"Gran!!!"

Of course she's not my real gran. Both my parents were killed. So I have been living with her for the past 11 years, so she is pretty much my family.

"Yes dear?"

"I got a letter in the mail addressed to me. It's a letter for a school. A school for wizards and witches, called Hogwarts. But magic doesn't exist. Right? But the problem is I really think that it might. I feel like I know this place."

"Emma there has been something I have been meaning to tell you for a long time. " she says as she sits down. "Your parents knew magic. You are a witch as well. This is why I didn't put you in a school this year. I have been waiting for that letter to come. Hagrid will be here tomorrow to get all your school supplies."

Wait what! Did she just say that I am a witch! That's impossible! I must be dreaming. Wake up me! Wake up! Nope this is actually happening. I am a witch. I can do magic!

"Gran, I am going to be upstairs a reading my letter. To see what I need to buy."

"Wait a minute Em there is something else I've been meaning to tell you." Gran starts.

Uh oh. She doesn't seem to happy to tell me.

"When you go to your new school, you're going to be famous. Remember when I told you that your parents died in an accident?"

Well of course I remember that. That's how I came to gran. So I nod.

" Well you're parents didn't die in an accident. They were murdered by an evil man. When this man came to your house he tried to murder you to but you didn't die. In fact when he tried to kill you you didn't die but the spell back fired and he was killed."

I stand there to stunned to speak, to stunned to move. Finally I whimper a little than run up the stairs as fast as I can and just sit on my bed. After a while I pull out my letter. It says:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Ms. Longbottom,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1.

The second page with requirements says:

UNIFORM
First-year students will require:
1.Three sets of plain work robes (black)
2.One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear
3.One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)
4.One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings)
Please note that all pupil's clothes should carry name tags.

1 set glass or crystal phials
1 telescope
1 set brass scales
Students may also bring and owl OR a cat OR a toad.
PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS
