"Kakyoin, is everything okay?"
Kakyoin nodded in response. It was the afternoon, school had ended for the week. They were both walking home. Jotaro looked unsure of Kakyoin's answer. "Are you sure, you looked sad all day."
Kakyoin pulled out his notebook. "I'm okay."
"I would hope so. If anything is wrong, tell me. I won't judge you."
Kakyoin gave him a smile. He wrote, "Thanks."
"Not a problem."
They got home, Holly was cooking dinner. "Welcome home boys! How was school?"
Kakyoin gave her a thumbs up. Jotaro replied. "It was okay."
"Nice to hear! Oh right! Jotaro, Joseph is gonna visit us this weekend! Won't that be fun!"
"That old man Jiji?"
"Of course. So be ready to see him tomorrow!"
Jotaro walked away to his room. Kakyoin followed him inside. He wrote in his book. "Who is Joseph?"
"My grandfather. He can be pretty loud and annoying."
He wrote. "Oh. It's okay, I can take it I'm sure."
"I hope so." Jotaro took off his jacket. It was hot in Jotaro's room. Kakyoin was sweating a bit. Jotaro noticed. "Hey, kakyoin. Are you not burning up?"
He wrote again. "No."
Jotaro narrowed his eyes. He knew he was lying. "Alright, you can take it off if you want."
Kakyoin replied with a smile.
"Boy's! Dinners ready!" Holly called out. They both left the room and went to eat dinner.
---
It was 3 in the morning. Jotaro woke up to someone crying nearby. It wasn't loud or anything. It was soft. He was deciding to investigate it or not. Either way, it was starting to annoy him.
Jotaro finally got up and checked Holly's room. She was sound asleep. That only left Kakyoin. He checked the guest bedroom. He wasn't there but his bed was unmade. He heard the bathroom sink run.
Jotaro moved quietly and stood at the door. He heard crying on the other side. Jotaro cracked the door open. He saw kakyoin's red hair. He looked to be on the floor.
"Kakyoin? Are you okay? I can hear you from my room. I'm gonna come in."
Jotaro opened the door and he was right, he was on the floor. He had a pocket knife in his hands and-
"KAKYOIN NO!" Jotaro screamed louder than he meant. Kakyoin flinched at the sound and dropped the pocket knife. Jotaro took it and laid it on the counter.
"Kak, no. That's not an option."
"You're right, it's the answer-"
Jotaro slapped Kakyoin. "Snap out of it. It's not the answer. It won't do a damn thing to fix anything. Why?"
"They won't leave me alone. When I go to bed, I don't sleep half of time. I just think about the past and what I could have done instead."
"Cutting your arm won't fix anything. It's not an excuse. It will make everything worse. Get up so you can wash that blood off."
Kakyoin stood up. He walked over to the sink and washed it. He winced as warm water washed into the cuts. Jotaro went into the closet and grabbed out a basket of medical items. It had rubbing alcohol, cotton pads, and some bandages.
"We'll have to treat it so you won't get an infection." Jotaro poured some rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad. "I'll need you to be still, it'll sting." Jotaro dabbed it on Kakyoin's arm. He gritted his teeth in pain. Jotaro wrapped it up neatly with a bandage.
"There. Don't take it off until you take a shower later. Let's go to my room. That way we won't wake up Holly if we haven't already. I want to talk to you."
Kakyoin nodded as they both went over to his room. Jotaro sat down on his bed. He motioned for Kakyoin to do the same. He sat down next to him. "Kakyoin. I want you to tell me everything. Your past, your bullies, parents, everything."
Kakyoin took a deep breath. "So you want the cause of these chain of events? I guess I can do that. Just don't get mad at me please."
"I won't."
"Well, my classmates. They found out I was gay. At first they just teased me about it. It went on for a week. Once they realized I wasn't letting it get to me. So the week after, they spread the word around along with some lies, everyone believed them. They started to trip me, publicly humiliate me. They destroyed some of my school supplies, tore up my desk. The teachers didn't do a thing to stop them. Word got to the headmaster. He expelled me and called my parents that night. I knew they weren't accepting. I got home to see my parents staring me down. We argued for hours on end. My parents kicked me out. With what money I had, I bought clothes, a tent, some food and other necessities. I stayed by an abandoned building that nobody passes through. I had dark thoughts every night. Telling myself I should just die already."
"You don't deserve to die over something that isn't your fault. I promise you, here, you'll be more accepted. Don't worry about people hating you about it here. Of course I don't exactly know how my mom will react or my grandfather. But not around me. It's okay. I still accept you. I'm gay too."
Kakyoin didn't respond. He hugged Jotaro as tightly as he could. "Thank you. It means alot."
"It's no problem. It's 3:37 in the morning. Why don't we go to bed?"
Kakyoin nodded. "I'll see you later."
