I had to be quiet I could not let anyone hear me. Ole Sayo would definitely kill me if I got caught.
It was 9pm already and they most probably were asleep. This was my only chance and I won't lose it. By morning I'd be far away from here and that old man will never abuse me again.
The night was cold and the darkness embraced the stars allowing them to shine. It however didn't fail to bring a cold shiver down my spine at the thought of the many wild animals that were under the same clouds.
I tip toed out of my house leaving the door open to avoid the noise that comes when it closes. I held my breath and I could hear my heart beat. I was taking a risk, a huge risk but one that I knew would be worth it. The light sweater I had on was not doing me any good. The wind blew as if to cover up for any sound I'd make. The universe was really giving me a chance.
Soon I was out of Ole Sayo's compound and now I had to guess my way to wherever I'd end up in.
I walked my way past Naserian's home feeling guilty, she had be my friend and had helped comfort me and shown me kindness. But here I was leaving, running away, without even a word. I hope she would understand why I had to do this.

My feet were getting sour now. I could tell that I was now very far away from the village. The surrounding had not changed much though. There were still huts and a forest around me.
I had to find a place and rest else I'd pass out in not so long.
It didn't take me long to find a tree to rest under. I was so tired and sleepy, I would continue with the journey in the morning.
Foot steps, or was I so tired that I was imagining things. No, I could hear the sound of dry leaves cracking. My heartbeat was now accelerating. My breathing uneven. To say I was scared would be an understatement.
Opening my eyes was not a good idea but I had to know what killed me if I was to die right?
A dark figure was coming towards me. The deem lighting from the moon made it impossible for me to see clearly through the darkness but anyone would tell that there was a man coming my way. A huge tall man.
Was this my fate?
Was I going to die now?
'You should have stayed back home
Now look at where your so called chase for your dreams got you'Even my subconscious mind was not helping at this point.
The man kept getting closer. Wait, was he drank! His steps were very slow with a lil but noticeable stagger. I could tell he was about 6'5 with broad shoulders like one who does very heavy works. From the humming that was now audible, his voice was deeper than any that I've heard before.
At this point my heart was threatening to pop out of my chest. this is where i wished that the grounds could open and swallow my already dying self.
"look who we have here" I had not even realized that he was now so close to me.
"p..ple...please don't hurt me" My voice was came out weaker than i intended it to be.
"leo nina bahatii.." he couldn't even make out a full sentence. He was completely wasted, and to think that I was at his mercies only made it worse.
"Don't be afraid now" he let out a sarcastic laugh that could not have made the situation worse.
My tears were threatening to spill but I could not let them. I had to be strong. I had chosen to fight and I had come a long way to give up now.
He tried to hold my hand but I shoved him off. His skin was rough and aggressive. Whatever his intentions were I knew they count never be positive.
He stepped on a fallen branch and due to his drunk self, he tripped and fell on the ground. I took that as my chance to run. I managed to take only two steps when i felt a hand on my wrist. Guess my luck had chosen to abandon me as well.
"That wasn't a smart move now was it?" He said it like a question but I had a feeling that it was meant to be more than that.
"please let go of me" I tried to plead.
"not so fast little one"
With that he ripped off the side of my little skirt. I could not control the tears any more. I wanted nothing but to die and join my mother in whatever place she was at.
How could God let this happen? Didn't they tell us that He was with us each time? Where was He when I needed Him the most?
I felt dirty. Nothing could take away the feeling of his hands on me.
