I'm sitting in the lobby of the hospital when I spot her out of the corner of my eye. "Hey!" I say, Standing up and tucking my short hair behind my ear. "Hey!" She says back, following me out the doors and across the street. It's very crowded in the bar, since it's a warm summer night. There are a few open spots at the bar, she takes on and I take the one next to her. "Let me buy you a drink" she says to me, ordering with Joe. "I don't drink" I say, not holding back. I used to ask joe to make me something that looked like a drink so I didn't have to explain I used to be a drug addict and now can't even sip one. Now I just tell people I don't drink and don't really explain it past there.
Mer texts me a few hours into our date and says "Chris won't go to bed, he wants to say goodnight to you. Can you FaceTime real quick?" I read it and bite my lip. "Can I step outside for a minute?" I ask Arizona. She responds "Fine by me!" Smiling her contagious smile, her eyes are such a vibrant blue it's beautiful. I step out and call Mer, who hands the phone to Chris. "Hey LoveBug" I say, seeing his cute little face on my phone screen. "Hey Mama... goodnight!" He says smiling. I smile back and say "Goodnight. I hope you're being good to Auntie Mer." blowing him kisses. Meredith interrupts with "He's the best behaved kid I've ever met." I smile widely, Chris has grown into such a mature kid. For 5 years old, he's extremely polite. "Alright, goodnight you two. Love you!" I say, Chris responds "Love you Mama". His voice makes my heart melt. Mer walks out of the room and says "call me if you need a ride, Amelia. Be safe...". I tell her I will be and I'll call her if necessary. I hang up and I'm startled by Arizona standing a few feet away from me smiling.
"Who was that?" She asks pushing one of her blonde curls out of her face. "That was my son Christopher... he wouldn't go to bed unless he got to say goodnight to me." I say, smiling. A few moments of silence pass before she walks closer to me and whispers "Can I kiss you?" Instead if answering I put my lips on hers. I put my hands around her, and she puts hers on my waist. She's a great kisser. We're interrupted by the door of the bar opening and some people walking out. She giggles a little bit and says "you wanna go back to my place?" I frown and say "I can't, I have to bring Chris to school early tomorrow and I totally lost track of time. but I really enjoyed this." She smiles and bites her lip. "See you around, I guess." She says. It's so tempting just to go back to her place, have some awesome sex and then leave so I can still get home in time to sleep for more than 3 hours but that would be irresponsible of me. I'm a mother, and have to be responsible now. "See you around. " I say, walking away.
When I get home Meredith is sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee. "Why are you still up?" I whisper because all the kids are sleeping. "I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe... you weren't drinking right?" She asks. I playfully roll my eyes and say, "no I was in Joe's.".
The next morning I wake up with a pounding headache, probably a combination of my dehydration and exhaustion. Chris wakes up a few moments later and goes downstairs. I rub my eyes, now I have to go downstairs to watch him and I just wanna go to bed. I walk downstairs and get cup of coffee. "You have another headache?" Meredith asks. "Yeah.. wait how'd you know?" I say back. "You have your hands on the back on your neck, you do that when you get a headache... you've had a lot lately. Are you sure you're okay?". I pull my hands away and take a deep breath "I'm fine" I say, which I don't really know. It's probably nothing, I don't drink enough water and that's a fact. I probably don't eat enough, I don't sleep and I'm always stressed. If I didn't have a headache it would be weirder.
