the vampire diaries, season 3, episode 9
Elena walked over to stand in front of Mikael in the Salvatore boarding house, their plan to kill Klaus and Athena full underway. "What if they want to see you in person?" She asked him.
"Well that means our plan is working. Klaus and Athena will absolutely want to see my body. You lure them here, and I will kill them." He said to her and the Salvatore brothers.
"With what?" Stefan furrowed his brows. "Those daggers won't work on them."
Mikael took out a dagger and dipped it in white oak ash. "Well, I'm in possession of a stake fashioned from the wood of the ancient white oak tree. The one that left these ashes when it burned."
"Where is it?" Damon questioned impatiently. "Actually, you know what? How are you supposed to kill both of them with only one stake." He changed his question, doubting if Mikael will actually be capable of killing them.
They all seemed surprised at what Mikael told them next. "Centuries ago, I acquired a witch to intertwine both of their lives together, thus what happens to one will happen to the other. I kill one, the other dies." At the beginning of his hunt for the twins, he'd realized that he only had one stake to kill them, so he sought out a witch that would be capable of linking the lives of the two, and she had been able to. Nobody knew of this, it was a secret he'd kept to himself for centuries and now he'd finally be able see it through and make sure Athena and Klaus never lived for another day.
Satisfied with the plan, they carried out the rest of it out, daggering Mikael to lure the twins back, and then informing them of his temporary demise.
