CHAPTER SEVEN ✞︎

We arrive at a small farm on the side of a silent road. We get out of the car. Sarah and I follow Troy and Vinnie towards the front door.

Vinnie knocks. A few seconds later the door opens and two dogs run outside.

"Hey" Sarah starts to pet one of them.

I look up and see a little old lady in the entrance.

"Vinnie, Troy" she smiles happily stepping aside so we can walk in.

I look around the small hallway. There are pictures of children on the walls and a big mirror.  

"John is still outside. Would you like something to drink?" she asks. 

"Just water will be fine" I smile.

"I'll make you guys some tea. It's a little cold outside today" she says before walking to the kitchen. 

Troy plops down on the couch in the livingroom. I look around the big, open room. I walk to the big window looking outside. You can see really far from here. It's calming. I see a man, probably John, close the gate.

"Oh, I didn't know there were people coming over" 

I turn around and see a guy probably a little older then us look at me. 

"They are here to help your father" the lady says walking in again with the tea. 

"Hi, I'm Ashlea" I say holding up my hand for her. 

"Oh god. I'm sorry I totally forgot to tell you my name" she giggles at herself. "I'm Grace" she smiles.

"I'm Sarah" Sarah says giving Grace a hand. 

"I'll help dad outside" the guy says trying to leave.

"Jack won't you introduce yourself to our guest" Grace says looking at the guy.

"I'm sorry mom. Hey I'm Jack" he says waving to us. 

We wave back.

"Oh you guys are here already" John says walking in. 

"John, wash your filthy hands before you walk in here and touch everything" Grace says making us all laugh.

I sit down on the couch next to Vinnie. I grab a cup of tea before taking a sip. 

"So you guys want to help us out with the animals. Correct?" John asks sitting down. 

We all nod. 

"Good. I can show you guys around after we finished our tea" he says grabbing his cup.

"Okay so the last thing I want to ask you guys is if you want to help Jack with the horses" John says.

"I'm not doing that. They can do that" Troy say referring to Sarah and me.

"We can do that I guess" Sarah says.
