Me and Kol made our way to the stables, as we were supposed to bring wheat to the horses, the man in charge of us, had made me and Kol responsible for feeding the horses. With every step we got closer and closer to the house, which made us both tense up walk more stifly.
"Are you planning on coming to the bonfire tonight," I ask, in order to divert or thoughts elsewhere.
He wavers his head from side to side, "I'm not sure. My mother said I needed to fix our shed today, the wind last night ruined some planks and the door almost fell off. Are you coming?"
"I think I am. It would be fun."
His look is downcast, "Then I might come."
Upon drawing nearer to the stables, we hear sounds of various tones and melody's, that make us perk our ears.
The uneven sounds gets louder as we open the red stable door.
It is spotless. The floors are clean, not even a hay anywhere it wasn't supposed to be. I wouldn't be surprised if I looked and the horses had been given flowers and olives in their water. The place looked rustic, but only in the way rich people can make it.
On the hayloft, you could see where the music came from, it belonged to a young man, sitting in the loose hay, strumming his guitar and softly humming to himself. His tall frame making the guitar seem smaller than it was. His shiny jewelry visible, despite the distance, along with the concentration lined on his handsome face. Not many men used necklaces or more than one ring, but he made it look easy and fashionable.
Upon our entry, the handsome man looked down to where we had interrupted and stopped his playing. A dark stray of hair fell onto his forehead, but his eyes did not waver.
My heart beat faster and my hands were sweaty as I put the fresh wheat into a horse stall. I felt his eyes on us the whole time, or rather, me.
Kol must've felt it too, cause he moved over to me and sheltered my body from the mans sight.
I saw the stranger turn his head away, picking up a notepad and scribble something down.
After dividing the wheat to each stall, Kol put his hand on my back and ushered us out. With one last look over my shoulder, I look to the man. Right away, he catches me looking at him, while peering at me from the side of his eye.
I quickly avert my eyes elsewhere, as the heat rises from my neck to my cheeks.
We hear whistleing and more strumming as the door closes behind us. Serperating us from him.
Quickly we passed the house and returned to the fields. Several hours later, Kol and I had bid farewell and I was at home, getting myself ready for the bonfire.
It was mostly an event for us young people, though there were still children and ederly people seen. You could dance, hangout and also grill corn and sausages in the bonfire, that usually was restricted to one per person.
When I finished bathing, I went and picked out a purple dress and a white blouse that suited well to my champagne eyes. My thick hair that reached to my bottom, was let loose.
"Roma, we're only waiting for you," Leo groaned out from the living room.
"I'm on my way!" I reply back while applying lip color.I finish up the last touches, before strutting into living room, to the avaiting faces of Rosella and Leo. Rosella had put on a red dress and Leo had on a blue shirt with half of the bottons undone, proudly showing of his chest hair.
I debate wheater to put on my sandals or not, and ultimately decide not to, it was a casual thing.
Leo wolfwhiles and ran a hand through his long black hair, while Rosella was hiding an all-knowing smirk behind her chubby hand.
"Now, who are you getting all dressed for?" he teased and closed the frontdoor behind us, on our way out."Myself. I don't need to dress up for anyone," I stated. And what was wrong with that?
"And certainly not Kol, right?" Rosella asked, without hint of a question and laught to herself.
"He told me, he might not come today."
My family had always teased me about Kol, simply for the reason being that he was a boy... and maybe partly because they knew he was my first kiss... and the second, and the fourth. Despite this, I never neared any deeper feelings for him.
The smell of burnt tree and smoke lingered in the air, along with loud chatter, laughter and happy people.
My eyes were wide open and let my sorroundings in. Excitement started to rise and soon my siblings were abadoned, as I found people dancing around the bonfire and immediately engaged in their dance.
My hips swayed to the beat of the drums, their energy flowing through me like a river. I threw my head back, my raven hair danced around my belly like a waterfall, tickling my sides.
My heart, beating happily to the tune of the music, lady sweat had formed on my upper lip. A young man with curly dark hair, inched closer to me. Once next to me, a broad smile erupted, "Hello," he whispered, as he took my hand and gave me a twirl, in which I ended up in his arms and against his chest.
He was the son of Jacob Freece, the foreman and caretaker of Mia Terceo, Lord Vega's right hand. His name was Kain Freece, a very sought-after man, both in looks and position.
"Hello, Kain." I smiled breathless. He had put his arms on my hips and gided them in an too frantic rhythm for my taste. Soon he brought his face close enough, so that the reflection of fire and myself was all I saw, and the subtle tease of liqor on his breath, was all I felt.
I relished in this moment and let him kiss me when he leaned in. And before my heart could beat the fifth beat, it was over.
Kain kissed my shoulder goodbye, as he left our embrace, already stumbleing onto the next girl. I didn't mind, he was known for being a charmer, but so was I.
I scanned the crowd for Tilly, but also Kol. Only one could be found.I made my way through the many bodies, and went to sit down next to Tilly, who had her short hair in two ponytails.
She gave a shrill and gave a little jump, that almost caused her to drop her corn.
She settled as she saw it was me and licked her fingers clean before she said, "You and Kain certainly seemed to enjoy yourselves out there," she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at me.
"We did," I agree "-He certainly knows how to twirl a girl. My hips are still buzzing from dancing with him," I laugh and see the delicious corn in her hand and bend down to take a juicy bite.
The sound of horse feet hitting the ground like gunshots, are heard speeding towards us in an hurricane of rage.
