Chapter 7

Weeks later after obtaining Seamus from Chechnya, Nancy has turned her new business into a thriving business. In order to do the type of genetic experiments she wants to do she must have a front to her business, a legitimate front, something that will keep the eyes of the world off her and allow her to fulfill her destiny. Nancy has tapped into the lucrative world of improving the human genome, specifically increasing  the humans body ability to resist virues and bacteria. Nancy proposed to the government of Kazakhstan that by manipulating certain DNA she may be able to increase the bodies ability to be resistant to viruses. Seeing the potential in this research the Kazakhstan government gave her 20 million dollars to do the research, based on the reputation alone of the famous recluse geneticist Mary Corbin. Luckily none of them had met the famous recluse geneticist Mary Corbin and Nancy looked similar enough to pull off the switch.

Nancy keeps her lab tech busy taking samples of stem cells, sperm, and blood from the patient Seamus, and preparing them for genetic mutation and manipulation. This gives her access to the lab after hours to perform her own experiments, by extracting the TT (time travel) cells from the DNA of Jens eggs and placing them within her own stem cells and then injecting them back into herself, she believes that the TT cells will bond with her DNA and multiply. In theory it should work, because the same process has worked for other genetic traits.

"Do you really think this is going to work?" Joe asks Nancy as he injects her with a syringe full of stem cells she has recently mutated.

"Yes I do, it has worked before," Nancy say wincing at the pain.

"What do you mean it has worked before?" Joe asks walking around in front of her.

"Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (ADA-SCID)," Nancy states.

"Huh?"

"Also known as the bubble boy disease..."Nancy explains.

"Oh!"

"Affected children are born without an effective immune system and would succumb to infections outside of the sterile bubble without bone marrow transplantation from matched donors. It was the first case of a gene therapy cure, or at least a long-term correction, for patients with a deadly genetic disorder was conducted by investigators in Italy. The therapeutic gene called ADA was introduced into the bone marrow cells of such patients in the laboratory, followed by transplantation of the genetically corrected cells back to the same patients, like you just did to me. The immune system reconstituted in all of the treated patients without any noticeable side effects, and now they live normal lives with their families without the need for further treatment," Nancy explains.

"So what do you plan to do if you become able to time travel?" Joe asks.

"How did you learn all of this? This is leaps and bounds ahead of anything that Jen was trying to do back at Genetech," Joe inquires.

"Jen was trying to stop the effects of the TT cells, which is contrary to the cells natural process. The cells want to mutate, they want to take over, so by fighting them all those years all she did was but heads with nature and in that war nature will always win. After the Chinaman explained things to me, it made perfect sense, don't try to change, don't fight nature. Allow nature to expand to its full potential, and by allowing the TT cells to mutate freely in a host that doesn't fight against it, it will develop into what it is meant to be," Nancy explains.

"Who's the Chinaman?" Joe asks.

"You'll get to meet him someday, I have been video conferencing with him for months. We have worked together on several missions before, and he likes me," Nancy explains smiling seductively, remembering a time with him.
