Part XV

Almost a year had passed. You are now enrolling in the college of your dream studying (major), away from Mamoru. It is just the start of the semester and you already had made a few friends.

"----I see.... Well, I'm enjoying it so far at here. You don't have to worry Mamoru---- I know, I knoww----- yeah, I love you too--- Goodbye hehe" You smile at your smartphone as your roommate Shina looked at you weird. Nevermind, she's just jealous.

"How long have you been going out with your boyfriend again?" Shina asked.

"Almost a year now, why?"

"Nothing, just wondering..."

You raise an eyebrow at her. Ever since you got in, you and Shina barely talked. Sometimes, it would be just the daily exchanges like "I will be back at noon" or "Don't forget to lock the door" or even nothing. Shina is not much of a talker and she seems like the person to avoid everyone so there would less hustle in her life. Even so, you did not hate her but it would be nice if she hold a conversation with you once in a while.

You put your smartphone beside your pillow, ready to sleep. But then, you got hungry. You check the time and it's half past eleven in the evening. There's a 24 hour convenience store just nearby and you think about going down to buy some snacks. You look to your side and see that Shina is already asleep--or she is just pretending to be.

'Fine, I'll go alone' You thought, wearing a jacket over your pyjamas. You carry along a pepper spray for your safety even though it would be just a short walk.

You smile at the security guarding the entrance of your dormitory as the middle aged woman smiles back in return. Just as expected, you arrived at the convenience store in just five minutes. There's only a few people inside. One person though catch your eyes. That particular person is a young woman seemingly around your age and she is carrying a sleeping baby toddler with her. Her son is so cute and beautiful, you can't help but smile at the sight of him. The mom must have notice your stare because she glances at you. So you quickly turn back and pretend to be interested at the shelves of goods in front of you---condoms. You hold your embarrassment as the people inside give you weird stares. You turn your heels and quickly walk away from the place.

You had chosen a few snacks that you plan on munching later. That was when you heard a little commotion going on at the cash register. You pop your head a little to have a better look. It seems like the young lady is having a little situation with the cashier.

"Ma'am, I apologise but it's our store policy to not let customers leave without paying."

"I promise I will be back and get my wallet, just please let me use this umbrella... I cannot let my baby get wet in the rain...!" The young lady pleads.

'It's raining? Oh yeah, it is.. Dammit.'

"Ma'am I told you we cannot do that. Please don't make it difficult for the others. They are waiting in line." The cashier insisted. The young lady looks behind her to see that other customers are in fact lining to pay. Panic written on her face.

"B-But..." She trailed off.

"Tch-- Annoying." A gruff voice said out loud, not even trying to be considerate of others' feelings. "Where is her husband, young people are reckless these days" It obviously came from the old man far back. The young lady looked down on the floor as she hugs her sleeping child closer.

"I'm sorry Haru, mommy will protect you from the rain okay?" She whispered to her child and apparently you were the only one heard that. She was about to leave but you quickly stopped her.

"I'll pay for the umbrella. How much is it?" You say, earning a grateful look from the young lady. The cashier told you the price and you paid it. 'Well, there goes my snacks money....' You give the young lady the umbrella as she smiles widely at you.

"Thank you so much... You're a kind woman."

"Dont worry about that, hehe.. besides, we young people must help each others these days." You say out loud, shooting a look at the old scumbag.

"I promise I will pay you back. Where did you live?"

"Just nearby! I'm enrolling at xxx college but you don't have to pay me back... Well, it's getting late, see you!" You wave her goodbye, pulling the jacket over your head running to your dormitory building.

You pat the rain that manages to hit you and sigh a little. The security guard looks at you confused. "Where did you went miss girl? Did you went to your boyfriend's house?" The security guard asks as she sees you bring nothing but yourself. Your cheeks become hot at the thought of Mamoru popped in your mind but you then aggressively shake the thought away.

"N--No.. I went to the convenience store but decides to not buy anything. Thanks for the concern." You bow politely at her before scurrying away to your dorm.

A tall dark figure is standing nearby the building, carefully watching you walking away from the security guard. They catches the woman looking at their way so they quickly hid in the shadow before walking away.
