🐍Chapter 9: Getting To Know🐍

We waited for around half an hour, and Savanna then walked over to us. "So, what exactly do you wanna know?"

"Everything." I answered.

She raised an eyebrow. "What, did you never meet your mother or something?"

"That's not it, I've always lived with her and my family. But they've been keeping so many secrets from us."

"Look, kid, from what I know? I think it's best those things stay a secret."

"Well we need to now! His sister was taken and we have no idea where she is!" Fiona stood up from her chair, glaring at the older woman, who stared at her for a while.

Eventually, she let out a sigh. "Alright, but I can't explain it here, too public."

"If you think we're gonna follow you home, think again, we already learned that lesson." I crossed my arms.

She snickered. "Not what I meant. There's a cafe across the street from here, we can head there."

Before we gave an answer, she was already walking out. Fi turned to me with an eyebrow raised. "How's a cafe more private than here?"

"Don't know, but we need the info."

As she had said, we entered the small cafe, sitting at the booths. She had already ordered herself a drink, but neither Fi nor I had any more money for anything.

I cleaned my glasses, putting them back on. "So how do you know my mom?"

I had been counting the minutes, two hours had already passed since I woke up here..

It was a cold place, too quiet and dark for my liking..

Hugging my legs close to my chest, I could feel more tears form in my eyes.. I just wanted to go home..

A soft clank made me look to the side, seeing Jake offering his sweater to me through the metal bars. "You seemed cold.." He spoke with his hands, and I soon took it.

"Thank you.."

He gave me a warm smile, and I noticed he had some scars around his arms. Did he get those in here..? Cassie doesn't have any scars though..

Now that I was a bit calmer (sort of..), there were some questions I wanted to ask. "How long have you two been in here..?"

"I've been here for only a month, Jake has been here for longer.." Cassie answered as I put on the yellow sweater, feeling a pit in my stomach as I heard.

"What does she want from us..?"

"Our magic, it's dark magic, we don't know why she wants it, but she's been keeping us here to use it.."

"Then why does she want me..? I don't have any magic..!"

I noticed them share a glance, Jake soon moving his hands. "You have to, it's the only reason she'd capture you.." 

"What are your last names?" Cassie asked as I looked over.

"Anderson, Cipher, R-"

"Cipher?!?" I jumped in surprise as she raised her voice, both of them staring at me in shock. "You're a Cipher?!? As in Bill Cipher?!?"

"Uh... yeah..?"

"Jade, Bill Cipher is the most powerful being in the entire universe!! You have to have dark magic!!"

"I don't even know anything about him, or magic..!"

As I turned to Jake, I noticed him drawing a triangle with an eye on the dust in the ground with his finger, then looking up at me as he pointed at it.

"That's his common form, but the last time people had seen him he had a new human disguise." Cassie explain.

I turned to her, gripping my sweater sleeves. "What else do you know about him..?"

"We know he's always had crazy power, and he actually has attempted to take over the planet on several occasions. Then one day he met a human girl, and they fell in love, which convinced him to become a better creature."

I'm guessing that would be my grandmother Iris..?

"What happened after..?"

"No one knows for sure.. But the most common legend is that his lover got murdered, and he was so in pain that he disappeared into dust.."

Is that why my family never told us about them..?

"We've also heard rumors about them having twins, is one your parent..?"

"Yeah, the younger one's my mom.."

"Jade, you have crazy power inside you.. You just need to learn how to use it.."

I stayed quiet for a while, did I really have magic..?

Why an I not happy about it..? I've always dreamed of having some sort of power, ever since I was little..!

But.. it's kinda painful to learn it from these two new people rather than my own mother..

Taking a deep breath, I looked at the two of them. "So you both have dark magic too..?"

They nodded. I thought for a while, and soon felt a dash of determination rush in me, giving them a smile. "No worries, we'll find a way out of this place somehow, and go back to our families!!"

Cassie fiddled with a stand of her hair, while Jake gripped his now bare arms, their expressions sad. I tilted my head, had I said something bad..?

"... Jade, we don't have families to go to.."

"What do you mean..?"

Cassie turned to me. "Lara kidnapped me from the orphanage I stayed at, and they never really wanted me in there.."

"As for Jake.." She began to explain as I looked over at him. "His dad isn't a good person, let's say that.."

At the mention of it, Jake gripped the ends of his short sleeves, tugging them down a bit as he stared at the ground. My heart sank, I didn't think they would have gone through that before this..

"Dark magic normally is inherited if there's a demon in your family.. And no one wants a demon's descendant.."

But my family loves me..!

Sure, they kept all of this hidden, but maybe they just wanted to protect us! I still don't know the full story, so I don't wanna make any wrong assumptions ahead of time.

I'll get out of this place, and when I do, I'll talk to my family about everything.
