🐍 Chapter 23: His Side Of The Truth 🐍

"Are they the last one?" Cassie asked as she ran over to Jade, who locked away one of the many people they fought.

She nodded, and both walked back to Fi and Jake, looking at her cousin. "Any luck opening these..?"

Fiona shook her head. "They're like transparent steal.."

"Maybe this'll work?"

"Gabe!!" Both Jade and Fi ran over with bright smiles, thankful he was okay.

He pressed the button, the table the adults were held in finally setting them free. Without hesitation, they wrapped their kids in a tight hug as tears of joy and relief filled their eyes.

So much had happened...

It was nice to finally have a moment of peace.

Gabe pulled away a bit, giving a smile. "As much as I want to continue this reunion, could we please do back home..?"

Place a kiss on his forehead, Sage stood back up with a smile. "I think that would be best.."

With that, they all began to walk to the exit, backs all turned away from the horror they had all just experienced.

All except for Aiden.

Sage noticed the spark in his eyes as he only stared in another direction, growing worried. "Babe..?"

He looked back at her. "Uh.. there's something I want to check before leaving." He placed a kiss on her head, smiling warmly for comfort. "I'll be okay, promise.."

Forcing a smile, she nodded. "Okay.. don't take long.."

A few minutes of silence passed by as Aiden walked down some hallways. After a while, he stopped in the middle of one, growing serious at the aura that formed nearby.

"I know you're there, Ryan.."

When the words left his mouth, the redhead man appeared behind him, though something was different.

Instead of the usual confident smirk that showed off his sharp fangs, his expression was serious, tense, ... guilty..?

"Why are you still here, Aidston." He spoke in a cold tone, the question sounding more like an accusation.

Aiden turned to face him. "I was hoping to speak with you."

"What, going to yell at me for putting your precious children in danger? For nearly killing them? Nearly killing you?"

"No, I just have a question." He replied, holding his ground. "As grateful as I am for my family being okay.. Why didn't you do anything..? Why didn't you kill me..? It's what you've wanted for years, isn't it..? You had the chance to take our lives so easily, yet you're letting us walk out like nothing.."

Ryan's eyes shifted around in thought, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "The truth is a lot more complicated than you think."
