Look At Me

It's silent on the ship as we get closer and closer to our destination. Kaldur brought a bag with him when he got on, but no one's questioned it yet. "What's in the duffle?" Kid asks. I stand corrected. I look at Kaldur, who's just behind me. His face is serious as he answers KF. "Plan B."

"Uh!" Miss Martian groans, placing a hand to her head. "You alright?" Superboy asks, concerned. "Dizzy." She answers. "Martians get airsick?" Robin asks. "She does look a bit greener than usual." Wally adds. "Not me, her." Miss M corrects. "I feel fine." Artemis and I state simultaneously. "Not you two, the Bioship. She's trying to shield us, but..." She trails off as we start spinning in circles.

We start flying normal again, but it only lasts a few seconds before something hits the ship, and we start falling from the sky. We land in a muddy pond, everyone groaning from the whip-lash we just took. I glance out the window to see vines wrapping around the ship, pulling us down. There's a thump above us, and a hole opens up, revealing Black Adam. Miss M grunts in pain, her hands placed on her head, "He's hurting her."

Superboy leaps up and punches him away from the hole. Right after, water starts pouring through the hole. I scream, jumping out of my seat, and backing into the wall, trying to get away. Kaldur comes over to me, worried. I barely hear Connor's words as he says, "M'gann, we need to get out. Open a hatch."

My focus then turns to Aqualad as he takes my head in both hands and forces me to look at him. "Esmeralda. It's okay. Don't focus on the water. Look at me." I stare into his eyes, tears flowing from mine. "I promise you'll be okay. I'm right here. I'll keep you safe, but we have to get out of here." He tells me. I nod, showing I understood, before taking a deep breath as we dive under to see the others. A hatch has been opened, and Aqualad's the first one to swim through, pulling me along with him. 'Out. Everyone out.' He says telepathically. I keep my eyes closed to help block out the fact that I'm in water. I focus on the hand wrapped tightly around mine.

We swim a little ways away from the ship, before finally coming up for air and to walk on land. We hide behind the trees and watch as the ship is finally pulled under. "She's in shock. She'll need time to recover." M'gann informs us. I look up to Kaldur, to see he's already looking at me. I pull him into a hug, my arms wrapped around him tight. "T-Thank you, K-Kaldur." I whisper. He wraps his arms around me, and I could hear his heart skip a beat.

An aggravating pain explodes inside my head, and I fall down, hands grasping at my head. "Vertigo." Kid groans. "Count Vertigo to you, peasant." A man says, I lift my head, seeing the man who spoke during the video. By now, he's stopped, and Superboy's been knocked down by Black Adam. Aqualad gets up and uses his water bearers to throw a stream of water at Vertigo. He's knocked back behind the trees.

'Robin, Miss Martian, disappear.' Aqualad orders through the link. 'We will keep them busy. You two fulfill the mission objective.' I slowly stand up behind him, ducking as he's punched by Black Adam and flies backwards. Wolf jumps on him and does his best to bite him, but is swung around and thrown to Artemis and Kid. I'm the only one left standing. I look back at Black Adam.

I jump back as he throws a punch, going under to give him an uppercut. He flies back, landing at the base of a tree. The pain hits me again, and I fall to my knees. I can barely look up, but I see Black Adam getting up and walking towards me. He grabs my hair and holds me up, before swinging a punch at me, and then all I see is black.
