The bell at the entrance tingles as I push open the door into the flower shop. Taking a step into the enchanted shop, a wave of thick scented flowers greeted me with a slap across my face, making me dizzy.
Looking for the florist through thick flower bushes, I found the cashier's station. Pressing the calling bell I waited patiently for an employee to acknowledge me. A slight tap by my shoulder made me turn 360 degrees in defense."Oh! Sorry if I startled you", the young employee bowed and flashed me a sweet smile, "May I help you?"
"Yeah". I returned his polite bow. "Could I get the peonies and iris in a bouquet?"
Skillfully working on the bouquet elegantly, the florist questioned, "Are you perhaps visiting someone ill?"
"Yes, I am" I looked around the shop, when sudden realization bestows upon me. "How did you know?" I asked, more puzzled than ever.
"Oh, it's because the flower u picked symbolizes healing and hope" he went back to gently packaging the flower bouquet. After a few seconds of silence, he stated, "You sure do know your flowers well" chuckling slightly.
"Well, maybe we can say that". I said smiling at the happy memories I made with mom before she got sick. "My mom loves flowers, so I guess I got it from her"
"Here's your healing and hope!"'the florist exclaimed in satisfaction. Smiling at his positive aura, I paid for the bouquet, thanking him for his excellent work, and exchanged farewells before heading to the hospital.
-At the hospital-
My mom never failed to look ethereal, she was beyond beautiful but seeing her like this was making me feel all kinds of pain I've never felt before.
"Mum""Yes, sweetheart?" She cooed, she still sounds like an angel.
"I've got flowers for you, mum!" I exclaimed, happy to see her happy.
"They are soo lovely, sweetie!" She slowly sat up, with less energy but that didn't stop her from wholeheartedly admiring the flower bouquet. I couldn't help but smile, she was happy.
"These flowers are a sight for sore eyes" she chuckled, holding them to her chest with a sense of treasure.Knock knock
"Ms.y/n?" The nurse called out.
"Yes, that's me" I acknowledged her call.
"The doctor wants to meet you in his office, ma'am"
"I'll be right there" I replied and left my coat for my mum.
" I'll be back, mum," I said, kissed her forehead, and left to meet the doctor.-At the doctor's office-
Everything was lumped up in my throat. Suddenly breathing freely was hard.
"I'm really sorry, Ms y/n. The tumor has spread rapidly in the past 2 weeks and all is vain"."But she's getting her treatment, right?" Voice cracking, I swallowed the lump making it to resurface I matter of seconds.
"She is but". He hesitated. "She's old and the tumor is now malicious cancer and it's critical"
Speechless.
"She only has about a year or so" he stated with sorry eyes.
"We can't stop it already, Ms y/n"
Nodding with defeat, I got up and went towards my mum's room. Regaining my composure and putting on a fake smile, I pushed the door open to her room. There she was, asleep peacefully, my jacket engulfed her tiny weak frame. This was the last straw, the tears were too heavy now. They started trailing down my cheek and they taste awfully salty.
'I need air'
'I need to think'-At the rooftop-
The tears were just streaming down my face.
'I've done everything I could'
'What more I have to do?'
Hugging my knees to my chest, I've never felt so vulnerable, a tall silhouette came into my visual field but now isn't the time to care about the world. Everything just kept on pouring out of me.
Sitting beside me, he sighed as he stared at the painfully blue sky.
I looked at him. And that was all it needed for me to sob even more."It's all my fault, Jin. She's going to go because of me" wiping the streaming tears with the back of my hand that's already been coated with tears.
"It's not, y/n. You know you did all you can" he said, handing me his handkerchief. It looked familiar, with an iris flower embroidered and the corner of the porcelain white handkerchief, I stared, my tears would ruin its beauty.
"When did you come here?" I asked sniffling.
"Since the beginning. When you came up here" he said, a gentle smile played by his lips, puffed up cheeks. He looked like a child.
"I'm really alone now, huh?" I scoffed at myself.
"I'm here," he said, a whisper that played by my ears as the sun made its way down as the sky gets darker and darker.
You were sooo sweet to be real but reality wasn't an option now
