Quick note before you begin.
This book has a sort of 'font type code'. (sounds weird I know but hear me out)
Regular old font is the person's point of view. e.g..Elizabeth's in this chapter.
Italics is the person's thoughts
and bold is narration in third person, authors notes or a POV change. (Look out for those)
Also XXX means a time span.
Now you're prepared, sit tight and off you go.Chapter 1- Questions Answers
I sit up and instantly feel dizzy, like that feeling you sometimes get when you sit up a little too quickly and the blood rushes from your head. It's strange, I can remember the feeling but can't put my finger on a specific time I have ever felt this, except from just now.My stomach drops as I'm lurched forward by a sudden jolt of the floor beneath me, which sends me flying across the unknown room and I faceplant (rather hard) into a cool, metal wall. As I pull my face from the wall, I can feel some markings under my palms. I trace the markings with my fingertips and slowly try to get my head around what I'm feeling. W. L? no I? no, line. C, line, K, line, D. WCKD, WCKD. I repeat the letters over and over in my head. They must mean something! Think, Elizabeth, Think! Elizabeth? Name? My name? Do I have more names? Surnames? Questions? Answers? I know what these things are. I'm getting somewhere! Good...
WICKED is good. All of a sudden my thoughts stop. I clutched my head, the voice I was hearing didn't sound familiar like one's own thoughts... It sounded as though someone was trying to tell me something. But the voice didn't sound at all friendly, the girl in the lift couldn't even begin to describe what impression the voice was conveying. It seemed somewhat reliable yet something about this woman's voice seemed dubious. It was unclear to the girl but she vowed to herself that she would not forget.
The lift falter and rattled as it escalated, hitting a wall every now and then and making me stumbles I traversed through the lift, running my fingertips along the wall as I went along and tapping my foot against the floor as to not bump into anything unexpected. Anything abrupt or unanticipated would probably be the worst thing right now.
As I didn't find anything I could potentially arm myself with or anything of use I sat, defeated in a corner of the room with my head in my hands and temporarily forgot about the situation that faced me.
The boys huddled around the metal elevator shaft waiting (very impatiently) for the box to return. "Who do you reckon we'll get this time?" A blonde boy asked indirectly to the crowd.
"I hope someone good. A useful shank at least!" another boy declared.
"Let's hope they're not ugly eh? Winston." A well built boy with light-brown hair joked. He earned a few laughs and a few scoffs from the remaining boys. "Bit harsh, Gally." said the boy, Winston his face full of acne. "You'll grow out of it." said the well built boy patting his friend on the back. "Maybe..." a loud 'oooohhh' erupted from the crowd. "Whatever, Gally." said winston, shrugging Gally's hand off his shoulder."Any minute now!" exclaimed a skinny boy with darker brown hair. The blonde haired boy rubbed his hands together and the boys leaned in for a closer look. One boy on another's shoulders at the back.
Elizabeth's POV.
My head shot up as I heard a very loud clank. The jolts of the elevator came to a halt. You've reached your destination Elizabeth. It's now or never! Another metallic clank cues a very bright light and a cover my face as my eyes fight to 're adjust to the new light level. Yet another metallic sounding clank shakes the floor and I can hear a faint rattle as the floor shudders under the weight. I pull my arms away from my eyes and I'm faced with two block boots making their way towards me. I slowly lift my head and a blonde haired boy stared at me for a moment, he then turned back and said with a thick British accent "It's a... bloody girl!"
I focus my attention to where he's looking and around thirty to forty boys are all staring down at me. A dark skinned boy pushes through the crowd. "What's goin' on down there? There a dead griever or... Ohh."
"What?" I snap. "Haven't you ever seen a girl before?" An oohhh wavers through the crowd.
"It's the girl version of Gally!" a curly haired boy on another's shoulders exclaims. The whole crowd erupts into laughter. "Ignore them." The blonde haired boy whispers to me, he then holds out his hand. "I'm Newt." I take his hand and he pulls me up. "Don't worry about your name it'll probably come back to you later."
"Elizabeth." The boys fall silent. "Elizabeth, my names Elizabeth." The crowd whoops and cheers."Well Elizabeth..." the dark skinned boy starts "Welcome to the glade." He puts a finger to my lips and says "I would appreciate if you could hold the questions. Just take a moment to breathe it all in."
I spun around and saw we were surrounded by four gigantic walls with thick ivy going almost to the top. There was a large gap in each wall with stone corridors beyond. There were a few wooden buildings but nothing out of the ordinary.

After a while the dark skinned boy named Alby lets me roam around to 'meet some gladers' I met a boy named Thomas who was best friends with Chuck (the curly haired kid who looked about thirteen) and a Asian boy named Minho. "Hey Greenie!" Minho says addressing me "I think somebody likes you..." He nods at a well built boy with light brown hair who has very defined eyebrows. It was quite clear that he was staring at us and as soon as I turned to look his way he redirected his gaze to a drawing him and his friend were working on.
Thomas follows my gaze. "That's Ben and his friend over there with the eyebrows?" I nod "That's Gally. I wouldn't mess with them if I was you."
"yeah you'd get the klunk beaten out of you!" says Chuck. I respond with a simple "Kay" and they carry on the conversation.

"Elizabeth!" Minho whispers (He sounds panicked!) "Gally's coming this way and he looks mad!"
"huh?" I reply.
"Good luck!" Chuck says in a sing song voice and all three of them run away.
"Um... Greenie?" Gally clears his throat "I mean Elizabeth."
"Yeah?"
"Follow me."
"Sure Gally!" He looks surprised that I know his name. He leads me to a wall with names scratched into its surface and he hands me a knife. "I don't have all day."
"Anywhere? Or..." I stammer.
"Yup. There's a space next to... my name." He looks down as I chisel my name just underneath his and just above Minho's.
"Is it just me or is this stone abnormally soft?" I ask.
"It's not just you, I noticed it too it's almost as it the stones"
"Not real." we say in unison. He laughs He doesn't look the type to laugh I think to myself and says "I think you'll make a good builder Elizabeth."
"I hope so if being a builder is good I mean."
"It's good. I'm a builder, keeper in fact." He states, proudly.
"Cool...What's a keeper?"
"All in good time Greenie, all in good time."
A/N
So I'm liking this. You? Meh I'm enjoying this. If you enjoyed the story so far a vote and comment would be much appreciated ;) I know there are some lazy bums out there (ME!) who don't like to comment to that often but it really does help me out.And also before you go reading all the maze runner imagines and preferences and fangirling the life outa your late evening I wanted to ask about the name of this fanfic. It's quite clever (In my opinion HAHA) But seems a little generic. Any suggestions?
Looking forward to writing the next chapter and I hope you're as exited for reading it.
bye for now - Me.
