When they get to town Krackle and Bundy leg it to avoid being arrested by Jack. The rest of the party ask about for the residence of the Unearthly Fog. In the next morning a murder is discovered by Jack. It is assumed that Bundy was the perpetrator. They work out the direction leads to the Dwarvern City so they make their way there. Bartrum, Feraan and Donalbain stay behind. Before leaving John makes friends with a drunken grey dwarf (duergar) called Marcus. They all head to the city. Inside the guards on watch say they saw 3 dark figures near the lake. They party decides that they should drop the hunt and instead rescue Gorpo!. They return to Orcustead and are accompanied by their other companions to the Unearthly Tower. The Unearthly Tower is unlike anything imaginable. It seems eerie and defies physics. It is shaped much like a wine glass. They approach and find a circular room at the bottom with a circle of runes in the centre, small spheres of light float around the room. As they approach a Fire Elemental erupts from the ground and attacks the party. Everyone retreats except Jack and Marcus. Marcus shrinks to ant size and Jack battles the elemental using the armour of Roth and the sword of Roth. Marcus sneaks past and steps on the circle. He becomes weightless and floats up the tower onto a landing. Jack continues to distract the elemental as he asks his companions to follow Marcus. John and Kevin follow Marcus but the others stay outside. Jack then follows them and they search the rooms. John finds the ingredients that he needs to enchant his hammer, he previously talked to an enchanter about it. They find a selection of potions, books and crystals. They makes their way onto the balcony of the tower. Stares lead to the top. Feraan, Bartrum and Donalbain manage to climb up to meet the others. Suddenly the wind picks up and a wind elemental appears in front of the door they try to enter. They all try to get past but Bartrum is flung to his death, becoming a puddle of broken bones and splattered flesh far below the tower on the ground. Inside they find Neloth the Alchemist and Gorpo! both working for The Unearthly Fog, kitted out with new magic robes. They wait a few days. Then The Unearthly Fog appears. They have a mighty battle, Marcus and Feraan nearly perish. But they defeat him, his rats and his goblins. They restrain him and force him to return the box and then imprison him in his own prison. They return to Orcustead and inform the guards of his arrest. Neloth thanks them for his rescue. The hirer awards them for retriving the box and Donalbain leaves the party.
