 Jack, Kevin, Greg and Feraan return to the stronghold to meet with John and Gorpo!. A speedy dwarf called Hegrumlir tells them that hobgoblins have attacked and pillaged the Dwarf city aswell as capturing the king, Khudmotir, and captain of the guard, Ilyian. They sent a rescue team but none have returned. When questioned on how he is so fast he tells them that he has magic boots that allow him to run as fast a horse. This inspires Kevin's hit song "Speedy Dwarf". They quickly make their way to the city and learn of the devastation. They meet Hegrumlir's cousin Jokgrumli and they together take the party to the Hobgoblin lair to rescue the king. They see the fallen dwarfs and hobgoblins strewn out in front of the cave entrance. They find little of value there. They quietly enter the chamber. There are tents all around and opposite and throne beside two sets of gallows where 6 dwarves have limp nooses around their necks. There are also two heaps of treasue in the corners. They split up to either side of the throne while Jack approaches the Hobgoblin king on his throne head on. He introduces himself to the king and asks him to release the King Khudmotir. The hobgoblin king, Staakt, laughs at this idea. They try to come to a compromise to no success. Jack discovers that both kings detect as evil putting him in a moral conundrum. Staakt gets impatient with Jack and orders his guards to execute him. The rest of the group come out of hiding. They shoot down the hobgoblin near the leavers at the gallows. Jokgrumli charges at Staakt with rage, Feraan helps Jack fight the guards. From afar the guards look like standard hobgoblins but on closer inspection have troll-like features and act like they are undead (they are thouls not hobgoblins). The thoul guards paralyze Jack and Feraan. Gorpo! tries to hypnotise the kings but only manages to hypnotise Dwarf King Khudmotir. Who then begs for a treaty or compromise to no avail. Gorpo! then casts phantasmal force on King Staakt and send him a false vision of killing Jack then the church of Ygg destroying his home and brutally slaughtering him and his people. He bursts from his home and flees to the tunnels. Kevin and Gorpo! then free the dwarfs, who charge after King Staakt. The speedy dwarf Hegrumlir catches up with Staakt and stabs him. They have a scuffle but are stopped by Kevin, allowing Staakt to escape. Greg, Gorpo! and John defeat the thoul guards. The party rummage through the gold searching for treasures. When Feraan and Jack become unparalysed they return to the Dwarf City victorious and are rewarded by King Khudmotir.
