The next day, after school Kyle needed to attend another football practice session playing on the field until the coach called for a ten minute break. He went over filling up a cup of water when Dan walked up to him.
"Neither Morgan, Nicholas, or Tyler were in school today," Dan whispered beside him.
"Not surprised," Kyle said, raising his eyebrows and looking from side to side with his eyes. "My father doesn't wanting me testing Christian." Kyle gulped the rest of his cup and crushed it up throwing it in the trash container. "He said it's too dangerous."
"But he tried to kill you and Sarah?"
"Yes, but I don't have any actual proof."
"Kyle, what proof do you need?" Dan said."You said Alan saw him but Anna stopped him."
"My Dad thinks this goes way beyond what's been going on with just a few students. He thinks someone has been orchestrating this whole thing from the start."
"So what are you guys talking about?" Jaden said, walking over. "I couldn't believe what happened at the pier. I mean that Ferris wheel looked like it had a mind of its own. Are you and Sarah okay?"
"Yeah, we're fine," Kyle replied. "Me and Dan were just talking about our last game."
"You a football fan too, Dan?"
"Of course," Dan answered smirking. "Who isn't?"
"Hey, I heard the announcement from the coach that we're done for today. See you back in the locker room," Christian said, raising his helmet up to chest level.
"Innocent enough," Dan said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Yeah, I feel it in my gut that I am not buying it."
"Well you know what I've always said to you. Go with your instincts."
"Let's break into the administration office," Kyle said. "Take a look at his records but tonight after the school is closed."
"I will meet you back here."
*************
By the time Kyle and Dan got back to the front door of the school, it was super late. Kyle held out his hand pressing it against the lock hearing it click open. They both walked inside turning on their flashlights so they could see down the darkened hallway to the administration office. After stepping inside Kyle looked around seeing the file cabinet that had the files on every student in the school. It was fortunate that the cabinet was unlocked as Kyle easily opened a drawer going through all of the names of the students until he found Christian's. He laid it out on the desk and flipped it open.
"Okay, usual stuff. Name, date of birth, where he lives," Kyle said, shining his flashlight on the file flipping pages, "Here's something."
"What is it?"
"Before last year there are zero records of him attending any other schools."
"Nothing when he was younger?"
"No, it's like he didn't even exist until coming here."
"Maybe his past records got lost or something?"
"It still doesn't add up for me."
He replaced the file and closed the cabinet leaving everything exactly the way it was left. They left the office heading back outside to Kyle's car.
"Did you call Grace back?" he said, opening the driver's side door. "What did have to say?"
"I did," Dan said, sliding in the passenger seat. "I told her everything that had happened and she said she was really relieved that I got away from the others."
"Good to hear."
"Do you plan on taking Sarah to the school's Homecoming dance?"
"Actually I've been so busy I haven't thought much about it."
From across the parking lot, they could hear loud shouts echoing looking outward seeing Peter and a student walking side by side in what appeared to be a heated argument.
"Isn't that....?"
"Duck down!" Kyle exclaimed.
"Why don't you keep your voice down?" Peter demanded.
"You are telling me after all of the weeks I cozied up to Kyle were for nothing," Jaden exclaimed.
"Christian?" Kyle whispered.
"Yeah, and I saw what you tried to do at the pier," Peter said, "You are being way too reckless for your own good. You should listen to your father."
"I don't care what my father thinks," he said, eyes wide, "This was his plan all along."
"His father?" Dan whispered, looking curiously.
Jaden got into his red convertible speeding away like a bat out of hell from the parking lot. Peter looked on but before he got into his car he looked around almost sensing someone else's presence in the area but soon dismissed it as nothing and drove away. After he was safely gone Kyle and Dan both rose up sitting back in their seats.
"Looks like that proves you were right," Dan said, "He's a Terran."
"That means for all this time all he has cared about was to split us up so the other guys could slowly indoctrinate you."
"Yeah, and I fell for it."
"Hey, don't beat yourself up," he said, "I fell for his act too."
"But what about him saying this was his father's plan. Who's Christian's father?"
