As I laid in my bunk my thoughts ran around like a rollar coaster, racking my skull, and shaking me from my sleep. A silent groan fell from my chapped lips as I rolled onto my right side. Downstairs I heard the front door slam, the violence rattled the whole house. My muscles tensed as I sunk deeper into my matress out of habit.
The thumping of footsteps kept pace with the erratic beat of my heart. The rattling of my door handle shook me out of my shock. As light flooded my room through the door I saw his broad figure. My eyes were screwed shut as I prayed, I prayed to myself, hoping, wishing, dreaming, begging for him to turn and leave. His pace was quick, his grasp was firm, my life was over.
'Up, now.' He groweled. I obliged, sitting up slowly. I kept my gaze in the floor, my hands in my lap, and my head down. He wrapped his rotund fingers are my ankel, forcing me to hit the floor. my body falling into a ball. A rough and drunken smile played on his lips as he bended over, his blood shot eyes becoming leveled with my tired ones.
'Where did you go this time? Running off to another city again, Vegas this time?' He asked with a snarl in his tone. When he got no response his hand pulled me from the floor, only to throw me down onto it once again.
'answer me!' His voice bellowed. The light in the room shifted as another body apeared in the door way.
'Jackson! Leave her alone! Shes been at the library all night! I swear!' Mrs. Lacy pleaded, tears in her deep brown eyes. I looked at her, praying for her to go, ultimately wishing for her not to be harmed. A crooked smile came to his face his tall frame stood straight, the killers smile only rapidly growing as he looked from me to her.
'Would you like a turn?' He asked, his smile dropping. The words left his mouth abd I shook my head. I scrambled to my feet, trembling.
'Im fine. Go away mrs lacy.' I tried to speak firmly, but my voice cracked.
' I won't let you do this. She didnt do anything!' Mrs. Lacy yelled. Grabbing my arm, rushing me out my door. She pulled it closed, locking it from the outside. Jackson's dreadful threats wrang through the thin door. His fist, beating, banging, and slamming down.
'Run, get out of here. Dont come back , ill get us help. Run lyric, go.' She pushed us both down the stairs. At the bottom, near the foyer, she reached to the floor, grabbbed my school bag. I hug her, as tight as I could. I Yank the door open, and bolt. My foot steps are light, but quick. When I reached the treeline, the rail road tracks just yards away, yet I turn back. I look at the house of my two gardians. The house that was supposed to be my home. shacking my head, turning, I ran. In less than minutes I was there, my legs numb, lungs constricting. My frail hands threw back the door. Before it could even fully open I was inside. Closeing it, I turned, clicking the switch to my disco ball. I lunged to my chair, holding my copy to my chest. Watching the door out of fear. I dont remember when, or how, but I fell asleep, having nightmares of his shadow.
