Kole's POV

I sat glumly at my seat on the table, waiting for my mom to arrive with her big news, so that I could hightail it out of here. Liana was sitting at the table, and she was so quiet, it was kinda unsettling.

I would not even be here, if not for the fact that Cheryl literally dragged me by my boxers and chained my feet to the chair, as if I didn't feel restricted enough. Cheryl was gonna be the death of me.

I don't know, there's something about that Liana girl that intrigued me, but she was annoying me just by being my roommate, and she looked as polite as the Mad Hatter.

"So," Cheryl started, obviously talking to Liana, "Where did you go to high school, Liana?" I didn't care, so I wasn't listening.

"Well, I went to Stonebrook High, in San Francisco. What about you?" She asked Cheryl. That started a stream of conversation which I didn't want to be a part of.

My dad came into the dining hall, and they went quiet, because he was on a call. Macy, our cook, had made Indian food, which was my favorite. That got me suspicious, because my favorite food was only made to butter me up for a favor, or to prepare me for bad news, like when...No, I would not think about that.

"Dad, where's mom?" I suddenly asked, breaking the silence which had ensued after my dad's call. "Oh, she went to run a few errands, is what she told me. She should be here soon." Oh, that was better.

My mom then entered the dining room through the elevator door, and she had a very suspicious smile on her face. Behind her was Colton, lugging three suitcases behind him, and I felt pity, because I was sure that one of those suitcases could fit in a small country.

"Send these to Liana's room, " my mom said as she sat down, causing Liana to look up from her phone. "Uh, what? You never said you were going shopping for me..." She looked confused.

That was when I remembered about my mom telling me that she was going to buy a few things. But damn, that was a whole store.

"Don't worry, honey," my mom said, "Just think about this as my personal college gift to you!"

"Oh no, Mrs. Asher! I couldn't accept this!" She looked genuinely bewildered. I internally chuckled, because knowing my mother, she had packed twice the capacity of each bag and screwed them shut. The bag was literally gonna explode in her face when she opened it!

"Oh, hush, honey, don't mind it at all! This is only the beginning, and just call me Freya, Mrs. Asher makes me feel as old as Jackson!" At this, we all burst into laughter, while my dad sat next to my mom scowling. My dad served himself, which signified the start of dinner.

"For your information, Freya, I will be collecting your report at one in the morning, where you will testify that no part of me is old at all, Freya. Not. At. All."

"Ew, dad, we didn't need that piece of info!" I had honestly damn near lost my appetite. I looked at Liana to see her snickering into her napkin. I scoffed silently. I'm sure her parents were even more vulgar than mine, if that was even possible... I know it was rude to assume, but she damn well looked like it...

"Anyway," my mom began as I shoved basmati rice down my throat, "I have an announcement to make, so I'm happy all of you could be here, you included, Liana." She looked lovingly at Liana, then nervously at me.

Ok, I couldn't take it. First, my favorite kind of food, and now, the nervous looks she was throwing at me.

"Uh, mom, what's the matter? Does this announcement have to do with me?" I was nervous now.

"Oh, no son, it's just that..." She looked at dad with a small smile, "I'm - I'm pregnant."
