The past summer had been filled with high humidity that made even the slightest movement a huge pain, breaking out into an annoying sweat was never in the top things Athanasia loved about not always being in a freezing country.
Obelia was beautiful yes, gorgeous to a fault even, stunning, all of the above- but had it been at the least, on average a bit chillier, it would have been better for the state of her hair, as vain as that reason sounded.
The birds and the bees? Wasn't even that- as joking as she was- it was the fact that whatever perfection she sought, it wasn't in the hands of the sun's natural habitat.
The constant buzz of the dragonflies swooping over the lake at night, the mosquitoes lying in wait in the reeds. She didn't need it, nor want it- but all for the sake of her wondrous climate.
Thank goodness for ice gems, and sticking with daddy had its perks, the rooms in all of their palaces were always chilled to perfection- the right temperature to sleep at without waking up in the middle of the night to curse.
She couldn't count how many times she had found herself half draped over a cooled sheet in the middle of the morning, the warm sunlight waking her up naturally at times, on days without schedules to be done.
That was one of the good things. But still, the winter months were her favorite- when she was not hiking up a mountain in the middle of god knows where.
That dreadful summer had long since passed- to Athanasia's never ending relief-the days of monotonous heat had given way to the rapidly cooling weather of winter.
Snow often falling as the days swiftly grew dark, hours of daylight cut short as the night came ever quicker.
The squawks of a murder of crows making their way to shelter in trees as hail begins to drop from the sky. Looming shadows of the trees from the full moon cast overhead.
Two outlooks, one walking on a dark stone path-a clock chiming in the background, the other hiking up a snowy mountain, ice crystals forming on the edge of the three cloaks.
In the end, the fate of the balance depends on one's actions within the situation given to them from the Heavens. For the heavens know all that is beneath them.
God above, bring down your heavenly punishment against these liars that walk your created space. For these fools that mill around us are not welcome down here where we are.
Having set off early in the morning, Athanasia's deprivation of her precious sleep had made her a bit more cranky than usual, her telling actions of randomly jumping around as they went up the slopes, and tugging Felix back on his cape with a "No~".
The two still indulged her, passing on steaming tea and biscuits, making it a little more bearable. Athanasia's own cape flapped back, the high collar upturned to keep wind away as she trudged further on, her gait steady even in the snow that piled up to her knees.
The peak was just in their grasp- and she wished she could fly against the horrendous weather, or teleport, but any sign of magic that would ease their way up the mountain would trigger the age old spell of never making them able to find the correct location again.
She, Athanasia- would make it up there. By whatever means necessary. That spell was absolutely needed to completely weed out and remove the single outsider from within her safe haven of wonder and happiness.
It had previously been hidden away, so far away that both the light and the dark couldn't find it easily, but with a bit of luck on their side, and a few well connected admirers within the abandoned forest- that dream was within reach.
