She had been let out for the special occasion, seeing as how they couldn't stop a person of the Obelian blood line from summoning their rightful familiar, their chance only coming once in their lifetimes. If she could even summon one that is.
For should they miss that one chance, it would eat at them alive, consuming them, their lives shorter than most, even a weak familiar would be better than having none- a weakness if anything- and Jennette couldn't let such a thing happen during her already dire straits.
There had only been two such occurrences during the long history of the empire, and they had both been born weak children.
Both born of concubines with low standing. Their blood having been too diluted to keep them from being able to reach their fullest potential as imperial children.
But Jennette's familiar would be different.
It had to be. Because Jennette was special. She knew she was. It would be with her forever, protecting her, sharing her life, her memories, it would become her future. One that was brighter than Athanasia's.
The guards didn't let their personal thoughts leak out, under oath be damned, but they were keeping those under lock and key until this so called "princess" was put away for good.
They honestly didn't understand why their majesties were even taking the chance to let her live, with all the truancies she had done to them in the past.
Jennette ignored their frosty glares and marched forward, confident, even with the glowing chains that dragged behind her, rattling over the ground as she walked. She had to take this chance and do her all.
She walks the same way Athanasia does- the same careful, confident strides, heel to toe. Her hair, flowing down her back, the brown a bit brighter under the midday sun.
The same beautiful smile that could fell entire towers, making sure it was close mouthed, the slight rub of pale lipstick to accent her pout.
She could do everything she put her mind to. She had always been the loved one after all.
The guards leave her near the front of the church, their duties allowing them to, as the church's holy force wouldn't let someone like her escape- not that they knew- and Jennette makes her way towards that gloriously beautiful stage of hers.
The one she had longed for all this time.
Jennette promptly trips over a stone that sticks out in the smooth path just as she makes her way over to the glittering church doors, finding herself surrounded with nobles and all of them in awe at the pair in front of them at the doors.
She curses at them all under her breath, "Just you wait- you'll see, you'll all see, mark my words- I'll make you all pay for your ignorance!"
She mutters, nearly spitting, all while rolling her ankle to make sure she hadn't twisted it to the point of being unable to walk.
Again, no one bothered to look at her, she didn't even register in their vicinity as they gaped at the two royals. She couldn't see them at first, and then- she saw.
The emperor-oh, glorious, esteemed father of hers- is wearing a formal uniform in white and gold, a dark red cape upon his shoulders, golden chains clinking across his chest, the sash in favor instead of his medals for the ceremony.
The person they were all looking at, Jennette included in those stares, was Athanasia. Indeed she was the first of her name, for she outshone all the rest. It was clear as night and day that she was the main character of today's event.
