The whole time they were silent. Riverpaw kept glancing at Kelp, the orange-brown tom focused on the river with a gluttonous Amber eye.
The only sounds that followed was the chirping of the occasional cricket. The sound echoed throughout the night sky beautifully.
For a heartbeat after the crickets stopped chirping and the wind stopped moving, the River seemed to slow down. It was as if it was warning them of something. But Riverpaw wasn't a medicine cat, so he wouldn't know if this was a bad omen or if it was just the river stopping for some odd reason.
Either way it's odd. The river usually moves no matter what. He noted.
It wasn't as if StarClan was warning him of something. He wasn't Sapwhisker.
He shook off the thoughts as a silent slash could be seen nearby.
Whale, her brown tabby pelt shining in the moonlight. A huge fish lay near her blood soaked paw. Victory gleamed in her eyes as she delicately leaned down to sniff at the fish. Light spots of blood from the dead creature spread to her nose, making it blood red instead of a berry pink.
The she-cat licked her nose afterwards, spreading the blood to her tongue and muzzle.
"Decent enough catch." Arctic meowed, his white pelt fluffed out in the cold. The cool breeze made the cats shiver.
"Decent enough? This thing is big enough to eat me!" Whale exclaimed.
Junco chuckled, his black pelt camouflaged into the night. The only way to determine whether if he was there or not was his dark yellow eyes.
"This River has enough fish. I wonder why the clan cats over here are so greedy to keep it to themselves?" Junco wondered.
"Must think we're too scary being rogues. We're just a nice group of rogues who wanted to live near the clans. I don't see why they don't like us." Gecko meowed.
"Yeah, they've killed plenty of us. What have we done to make them this way?" Whale meowed curiously.
Riverpaw tried to glance at Stripes, who was just a dark blob now the sun had settled in for the night, and the moon had to take its turn to patrol the sky.
Stripes was staring at his paws. His eyes were being shielded by the dark of night. Something was obviously on his mind.
Stream shoved him, making the tom's Amber eyes widen with anxiety. "What are you thinking about? Huh? Some pretty she-cat?" Stream teases him, tail moving to-and-fro with amusement.
Stripes snorted, obviously annoyed he even bothered to ask that.
"Just thinking about...the clan who's been killing off the rogue group." Stripes meowed, thoughtfully, his body sitting down. His tail curled around his body and he leaned forward.
"Okay, okay. Reasonable. Not really." Stream muttered to himself.
Stripe's gaze turned towards the river. He was watching the fish in there swim furiously, trying to get away from a different set of paws. A set of Orange/brown frontal paws reached out and grabbed a fish.
Riverpaw watched as the tom's wet paws lifted the fish up and threw it onto the land. The fish was really big.
This could feed the whole nursery! Riverpaw realized. He gulped as the truth sank in. And I'm just willfully giving it away to some rogues?
The thought made his head shake.
No! I want to do this! They're great cats! Plus they're basically a part of my clan already. I mean imagine having so many cats in one clan you don't know what kind of jobs to give them! Heh. Nice thought.
