Cinders was annoyed. He was in a carriage, dressed in a lavender ball gown, face coated with makeup and was also wearing wig. He absolutely hated cross-dressing (He liked it but no one needs to know that) and had sworn to himself to never cross-dress when he was 11. He could remember the insults way too clearly. But in the end he broke the vow in just 8 years. If he did not like this, one might wonder how he ended up in this situation.
Well, it's quite a simple reason. 3 months before Cinders had broken a vase that belonged to his step-mother. She had not been able to find the culprit so Cinders was saved. But a couple of days prior Cinders twin sister Ella received an invitation from the Royal Palace, inviting her to a ball in which there was a chance she could be chosen as the prince's future wife. Ella had been ecstatic but she was down with fever. Therefore, she threatened Cinders with the vase situation, dressed him up like she used to do when they were little and sent him to the ball.
The only reason Cinders agreed was because of the vase. His step-mom could throw him out of the house and probably even make sure he would never be able to get a job anywhere. She disliked the twins with all her being after all. Their mistake was her victory.
Cinders arrived at the ball in time. After checking his invitation, he was escorted to the ball room. The ballroom was a magnificent place filled with crystal chandeliers and exquisite paintings. The hundred or so girls filling it were adorned with jewels and reeked of perfume. The prince was seated on a throne and next to him was another young man. Cinders sat down and took a deep breath, preparing for the horrendous night ahead.
The prince was on edge that night. There was a rumor going on about an assassination attempt. "Do you think he is here Charlie?" the prince whispered to the young man next to him. "I'm not sure but all the servants and guests were checked. There is no one here that shouldn't be here," he answered then ruffled the prince's hair. The price grumbled then said "Dance with me." "What the heck,Damien?" Charlie exclaimed. "You know I don't want to dance with some girl who's gonna drool through the whole dance. Please" Damien pouted. Charlie lightly hit his friend and huffed "Fine".
Cinders was a millimetre away from exploding in anger. The high heels were killing his feet and the dress was itchy. And to top it off he felt like he was going to puke if he heard another high pitched scream about some boy. The music for the first dance started and Cinders was wondering which of the damsels would be invited for the dance. The prince walked to the dance floor but rather than a girl invited the young man that was with him. The ball room got filled with confused chatter. Some of the elders looked horrified.
This was the last straw for Cinders. He had dressed up like that and was waiting painfully and it turned out the prince didn't even like girls. He should've just asked young men to come. Cinders just wanted to slither his fingers around that neck and kill that git.
The dance ended and the prince waited to flatter the long line of officials waiting impatiently. And the other young man was now surrounded by the girls and was shamelessly flirting. Cinders couldn't even begin to comprehend him. Cinders agitation was growing. He was sure his feet were bleeding and the chocolates that had been offered were too small. Cinders tapped his feet and clenched his fists around the soft chiffon of the dress. Two older women sat next to Cinders talking about their daughters. The overwhelming rose perfume they wore made Cinders gag. Cinders had had it. He got up and walked to the side door of the ballroom and after looking over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't being followed, slipped through the door and into the palace garden.
The prince while shaking hand and smiling his signature dimpled smile was scanning every guest down to the very minute detail. The prince couldn't find any odd person among the guests or the staff but when he was shaking the 58th minister's hand he saw something in his peripheral vision. A girl with long black hair in a lavender dress looked suspiciously over her shoulder before she left through the side door. The prince accidently hit a dancer and the dancers began to collapse to the floor like human dominos. This commotion finally diverted the attention from the prince and he quietly slipped away into the garden as well.
