Summer of 1968

Everything hurt. Merlin, his father was a bastard. Severus moved from the floor and yelped at the pain in his side. He looked to his little sister. His Angel, as he sometimes called her. He crawled to her bloodied form. He'd touched her again, like he did to his mother. Severus stroked Angelica's raven hair from her face and cradled her head in his lap.
"Angie, wake up. He's gone." He soothed. The little girl began to whimper. Her eyes opened with a start. Onyx eyes flashed in fear and suddenly the little girl wasn't breathing. Severus coaxed her through the panic attack as he had many times before.

When she had finally calmed down, he lifted her to their bed. No heating in the house so they would cling to each other for warmth at night. It also meant Severus could guard her from his father. The door opened and Eileen walked in wearily, sporting bruises and cuts of her own. In her hands was a bowl of water and a cloth.
"Let's get you two cleaned up and bandaged. Then you two should go to the park. Your father won't search for you there." She said softly. Severus and his mother worked to clean Angelica. She then helped clean Severus and the two children helped their mother. Once they all had bandages and plasters, the two children walked to the park.

"Angie, what do you want to play on first? You pick." Severus smiled at his little sister. She was only six but she was a trouper. Angelica smiled and replied.
"Nothing where I have to sit, I'm still sore. Why don't we play in the sand?" She asked. Severus nodded and they walked over. Suddenly they heard "FREAK! you're a freak Lily! Just wait till i tell mummy!" A blonde girl ran past. The two children looked over to see a girl with green eyes and red hair with a single tear running down her face staring after the blonde girl. Angelica wrenched her hand out of Severus' hand and ran over to the girl and hugged her.
"I don't see how a pretty girl like you can be a freak." She said smiling. Severus ran over to the two girls.
"Are you ok?" He asked, offering a tentative smile.
"It's my sister, Petunia. She saw me doing my tricks and now she thinks I'm a freak." The girl sighed sadly.

Severus and Angelica looked at each other in understanding.
"What kind of tricks? Can you do this?" Asked Severus as he took a helicopter and made it float to the girl.
"Yes! You can do that too?" The girl asked, eyes shining. Angelica rolled her eyes.
"Obviously, otherwise he wouldn't have done it." She said with an eyebrow raised.
"Angel! Don't be rude." Severus scolded.
"I'm Lily." The girl said with a hand stretched out.
"I'm Severus, and this is my sister Angelica." Severus replied, shaking her hand. "And that's not a trick, that's magic. You're a witch." Severus explained.

"I beg your pardon?" Exclaimed Lily, looking offended.
"He doesn't mean a witch with green skin; he means a real witch who can do magic spells and brew potions. Not all witches are bad. I'm a witch too, and Sev is a wizard. Our mum is a witch as well. You're a Muggleborn which means you don't have a magical parent. But when you turn eleven, you'll get a letter inviting you to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Our mum went there and she says it's amazing!" Angelica gushed.
"You're not making this up?" Asked Lily cautiously.
"Why would I lie to you?" Replied Angelica kindly. "Sev! We should take her to our special place! The one that no one else knows about!" She cried suddenly and dashed off.
"Do you want to come?" Severus asked with a hand outstretched.

"I would love to." Lily grinned and took his hand. They dashed off together after Angelica until they stopped outside an old abandoned house. It was tall and overrun with creeping ivy and had windows missing. The three children went into the house together. Severus flicked a switch and some lights came on. There was a makeshift tent in one room and another room had some food. There was pictures and paintings everywhere, clearly drawn by the children.
"Welcome to our special place." Angelica smiled.
"Did you guys make all this?" Lily asked in wonder, looking all around her.
