"True love connects two souls. It can change us, it can destroy us. How can something so sweet leave such bitterness in our hearts?"
Y/N was just done writing the last chapter of her newest book that told about two lovers whose souls were deeply connected, but who couldn't be together because of a magic spell from another dimension, that turned one of the two into a greedy, narcissistic monster.
Y/N was a hopeless romantic who lived in Floralia and spent her time writing poems and books that all the inhabitants could enjoy. She loved expressing her romanticism in written form and she was a pretty popular writer, too.
As soon as she finished putting all the pages together, she decided to go outside to enjoy the warm weather the summer season had to offer. The inhabitants greeted her, and asked her how her rumored newest book was going: she usually never advertised her books, but she loved throwing tea parties where she discussed new ideas she got and, apparently, people started throwing rumours about a new dramatic and romantic book that would come out soon. Y/N was surprised at how much her "fanbase" liked to speculate about her new releases, but she wanted to keep everything a secret and just replied with a kind "Be patient!".
While she was walking near a flower field, she noticed her friend Taranza sitting in the middle of it, looking at the immense blue sky; so, she decided to go nearer and greet her spider buddy.
"Hey there, Taranza! How's it going? What are you doing here? You seem lost in your thoughts."
The spider jumped, surprised by the sudden arrival of his friend.
"O-oh! Hey, Y/N! I didn't expect someone to come here, haha, this field is pretty far from the city."
"I was just finished... doing something, and I decided I should go for a walk."
The surroundings smelt really good, the flower aroma entered one's nostrils like a pure and pleasant breeze.
Both Y/N and Taranza loved that huge, pink flowers field, but for different reasons.
"That's cool..." said the spider with a little sadness in his voice.
"What's up? Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Sometimes I come here to think."
"Think about what?"
The question made the spider shiver a little. He wasn't too ready to talk about something so sad and important to someone. His eyes were almost teary already, and he felt like he would explode in tears if he started talking about his once beloved queen.
Y/N noticed that Taranza was completely lost in his thoughts. She also noticed that he looked very sad, so she sat next to him and wrapped her arm around him.
"Hey. I have no idea what's going on... but if you want to get it off your chest, I'm here."
Y/N's kind words and good intentions made the spider regretfully shed a tear. The girl didn't say a word, and just waited for her friend to eventually open up.
"I used to have everything, you know? She will forever be my queen, I still can't stop thinking about how happy those times were."
Floralia was, in fact, ruled by a queen... once.
"We were extremely close, and I thought it would always be that way. But she got corrupted, corrupted by a mysterious mirror that made her vanity and desire for power grow and destroy what was once a pure heart."
The spider started tearing up, looking up in the sky and wondering why that had to happen to his virtuous queen.
"I continued following her orders, even if I kept asking myself if that was still her, my lovely Sectonia. She eventually decided I wasn't needed anymore, I failed my mission. So I turned my back on her and saved this world together with the hero and the king of Dream Land so that everyone could live in peace. But at what cost? She will never come back again."
No medicine in the world could ever heal a broken heart, and Y/N knew that very well. There was no comfort to his wounded soul.
"Listen, Taranza... We both know you will never go back to who you once were, but we all have the power to change and try to forget about our past. We can learn from it, but we can't keep thinking about it forever. We have to think about what has to come; until our last breath we'll be sure to have something to live for. You have a lot of friends who admire you, both on Floralia and Dream Land. Please, at least try to be happy for us, for the people who love you."
These words warmed the spider's heart, who immediately hugged his dear friend.
"Thank you, Y/N."
"...you're welcome." replied the girl, surprised by her friend's sudden action. She was really glad she had at least been able to lift him up a little. She hugged the spider back and held him tight in her arms. As some of her "tea friends" knew, she was... pretty fond of Taranza: she had a long lasting crush on him but always respected his feelings for the now gone queen. They didn't talk much during the period in which the queen was corrupted, and resumed talking regularly weeks after those events. She knew how much he was emotionally destroyed by the death of his beloved queen, so she always baked him cakes and talked to him everyday; their bond was growing stronger and stronger everyday.
Y/N, despite her timid nature, kissed Taranza on the forehead.
"Everything's going to be OK." said the girl to the spider.
The friends were both blushing and Y/N started asking herself if that could've been the right moment to finally express her true feelings to Taranza.
She didn't want to ruin their friendship, or feel awkward around her dear friend, but it was way too much to take and the moment just seemed perfect. Just her and him, hugging in the middle of a large flower field that separated them from the troubles of the world; its colors contrasted with the beautiful blue summer sky and the delicate perfume it spread helped build an even more romantic and intimate atmosphere.
"T-Taranza, I should tell you something..." said Y/N in a soft tone of voice, almost shivering.
"...yes?" replied the spider, while staring at his friend in her eyes.
"I gotta be honest with you. I love you, I always have."
The two turned into living tomatoes.
There was a moment of silence, then Taranza put two of his hands on his friend's face, bringing it near to his. He looked at her for a second, and then kissed her softly.
The two melted into the kiss, both surprised by these newly discovered feelings.
Taranza thought about the possibility to move on and the power to change. That moment, he knew he would never be the same depressed spider again.
